Duncan was speechless, to say the least.
In the end, Duncan left Wildridge Manor.
Once he was gone, Zack stayed to chat with his nana for a while. Since the grandmother and grandson were close, they had a lot to talk about. It took Grandma May to yawn a few times before Zack said, ” You’re tired. It’s time for you to get some rest.”
Grandma May let out another yawn. “I am getting old. I can barely keep my eyes open when my bedtime. approaches. Still, I’ll get to sleep and wake up before the break of dawn.”
Rising to her feet, Grandma May retreated to her bedroom.
Zack waited until his nana was in bed before heading upstairs.
Thinking that his wife was in bed waiting for him, Zack opened the bedroom door to a dark room.
He turned on the light and swept his gaze around the room. The lithe figure was nowhere to be found.
Thinking that Serena was in her sister’s room, Zack was not in a hurry to look for his wife.
He took a shower and sat in bed to read a magazine. By eleven o’clock at night, his partner in bed still had not returned.
Since he disliked and was not used to sleeping alone, Zack went in search of his wife.
Zack arrived outside his sister–in–law’s bedroom door, thinking that Serena was inside. He quietly listened for any activity happening inside, but there did not seem to be anybody talking in the room.
In the end, he knocked on the door.
Liberty was already asleep. Picking up on the knocking in a daze, she sat up and asked, “Who is it?”
“It’s me, Liberty. Is Seren in your room?”
“Seren is in the study.”
Zack answered, “Oh. Sorry to bother you, Liberty.”
It never occurred to him that Serena would be studying the ledgers in the study.
Soon, Zack reached the study and lifted his arm to knock on the door.
“Seren.”
With his voice taking her attention away from the books, Serena was surprised to find that it was midnight.
Closing the book in her hand, she returned it back to its place, got up, walked around the desk, and went to open the door.
“What time is it? Why aren’t you in bed yet? You left your husband all alone,” Zack whined.
Serena replied with a smile, “I didn’t notice the time. I didn’t think I’d take a long time.”
She turned off the study light, shut the door, and locked it.
Serena then intimately held Zack’s arm. “Don’t be mad, babe.”
Zack scoffed on purpose. “Well, it comes down to you on what you want to do about it.”
Serena giggled.
Back in the bedroom, Serena pinned him down against the door and gleefully teased him. “I’ll show you what I want to do about it.”
She then hooked her arms around the nape of his neck. Zack got down to her eye level so that she could seal his lips.
A certain somebody was not too pleased with a mere kiss.
It took less than two minutes for Zack to take a more active role rather than being passive. He carried his wife to the bed and demanded more.
No words were needed for the rest of the night.
The following day was when Jasmine would drop by her family home for a visit as Mrs. Bucham.
Serena and her sister were having lunch at the Soxes‘ residence.
Zack would, of course, be with his wife.
After the visit, Jasmine and Josh would travel for their honeymoon the next day.
It would also mark the end of the brief public holidays.
Then came the time to get back to work, back to school, and back to business as usual.
For the mass public, they were to resume the normal routine.
Apart from watching the shop, Serena would find the time to return to her hometown with Elisa to check. on agriculture progress.
The seasonal vegetables had been planted as planned.
Looking at the greens all around, Elisa told Serena, “The administrator said that the vegetables will be ready to be sold in another week.”
Serena observed the plantation and uttered, “Can we sell everything to the hotels and school cafeterias. we negotiated with?”
“No. We have a huge plantation with a variety of greens. The few hotels and school cafeterias won’t be able to take all the crops. I need to go around and seal a deal with more hotels and school cafeterias.”
“We can work together with a few fixed sellers in the market,” Serena suggested. “Since we’re only starting off, we can collaborate with anyone who wants our vegetables. We welcome all scales of businesses.”
They wanted to market these vegetables on their own instead of getting their families involved.
Serena could expect to manage a lot of other commercial activities in the future as she was the wife of the Yorks‘ heir. Her involvement should not be limited to paperwork like account books. She should get at little of the know–how of every trade.
She could begin by bringing sales to the business for the sake of experience.
Elisa was in agreement with Serena’s suggestion.
The pair did a round of inspection of the plantation before taking their lunch at a local restaurant. They then made haste back to the city.
The vegetables on the plantation would be available in the market in a week. With the clock ticking, Elisa and Serena had to get back to the city and seek more partners.
Serena would be working the markets.
Since Elisa was born with a silver spoon, it did not suit her to trail the markets for partners. Serena might be Mrs. York now, but she grew up alongside all walks of life. She had a better idea of the vegetable prices in the market.
Elisa and Serena were busy day in and day out. Sometimes, Serena needed to socialize with Zack at dinner parties and other events.
Zack had never been keen on social events in the past unless it was hosted by the Marshalls.
Yet now, Zack could always be seen at any gatherings he was invited to, and his motive was to show his wife around. He could also introduce his wife to the CEOS to accomplish two things–build a network for his wife and show off his relationship.
Everybody in Wiltspoon commercial scene knew the extent of Mr. York’s love for his wife.
Even so, Zack got the feeling that he was no longer on Serena’s priority list lately.
That night, Zack returned home to find that Serena’s car was not in the garage. He knew she was not home yet.
It was eleven o’clock at night.
Zack got out of the car, looking rather upset.
Spotting his boss’s tensed face, Sam cautiously asked, “Did you have a bad day, sir?”
“Is Mrs. York home yet?”
“No.”
It hit Sam the reason that Mr. Zack was not too happy.
The missus had been home later than Mr. Zack lately. Mr. Zack must think the missus was too busy with work to pay him any attention.
“It’s late. Why isn’t she home yet?”
Zack mumbled under his breath while walking into the house and pulling out his phone to call Serena.
It did not take long for Serena to pick up his call.
“What’s wrong, babe?”
“I miss you.”
Although Zack was not pleased that his wife neglected him, he could not show it in his attitude, especially when he heard her voice.
Sam snickered.
Zack had completely become a slave to his wife.
Serena laughed on the other side of the line. “I’ll be home soon. Are you home?”
“Yeah, I just got home. Where are you now? Let me pick you up.”
“It’s okay, don’t trouble yourself. I can drive myself home. Besides, it’s too much of a hassle for you to come all the way from home just to bring me home. I’ll be back in ten minutes. Just wait for me at home, babe.”
