Just then, a nurse happened to pass by. Leo quickly stopped her and asked, “Wasn’t a patient named Laney Garcia staying in this ward before? Where is she now?”
The nurse replied softly, “She has been discharged and left two days ago.”
“She’s left? Did Garrett lie to me? He said he would bring Laney home in a few days!” Vera exclaimed in disbelief.
Leo furrowed his brows. He never expected Laney to be discharged ahead of time.
“Call Garrett. Ask him what’s going on,” Leo muttered harshly.
“No need. You won’t find her,” Garrett said indifferently, suddenly appearing behind them.
Leo couldn’t contain his anger and demanded, “Where is Laney? Where did you hide my granddaughter?”
Garrett’s lips curled and mocked, “Thanks to you two, I have no idea where she took the child and went.”
Leo became furious and yelled, “Then go and find her! She took a child from the Harding family and ran away!”
Garrett looked at his parents with extreme disgust.
He didn’t expect his parents to only think about the child. They were not even concerned about why Laney left.
“I won’t look for her,” Garrett sneered.
“Even if I find her, she’ll just leave again because of the two of you. Thanks to you two, I’ve lost not only my wife but also my child. I didn’t even get a chance to name my daughter before she left,” he continued sarcastically.
Vera shouted harshly, “Find the child first. We’ll discuss the rest later!”
Garrett scoffed. He then got his assistant to bring out the documents he had prepared and threw them at Leo.
Leo’s face turned pale upon seeing the title of the document. He glared at Garrett and asked, “Share Surrender Agreement? What do you mean by this?”
Garrett crossed his arms and said coldly, “If you dare to harass Laney and my child again, I’ll sign the documents in public and surrender my shares in the Harding Group. That way, the Harding Group and the Harding family will have nothing to do with me anymore.”
As soon as Garrett finished speaking, the corridor fell into a deathly silence.
Leo glared at Garrett with a livid face, barely able to catch his breath as he roared, “Garrett! How dare you! Are you going to sever the relationship with the Harding family?”
Vera was so furious that she nearly fainted. “Garrett, how could you abandon us for a woman? How come we have a son like you?” The assistant next to Garrett trembled in fear.
He thought that the document was meant to intimidate Leo, but he didn’t expect Garrett to be serious.
Garrett sneered and said, “If I had a choice, I wouldn’t want parents like you.
You only gave birth to me so that you could use me as a tool to take over the Harding Group. You not only controlled my life, but also my wife’s and my child’s lives. It’s because of you that Laney and I are in this situation!”
Vera gasped for breath as she listened to Garrett’s accusations. She could no longer maintain her elegant and dignified demeanor as a pretentious noble lady.
She snapped, “It’s all because of Laney that you’ve become like this. back and you must get a divorce with her!”
Vera placed all the blame on Laney, believing she was the reason behind Garrett’s rebellion and decision to break away from the Harding family.
“Don’t you dare!”
Garrett said to Vera in a menacing voice, “If you harass Laney or the baby again, I won’t hesitate to cut ties with you.”
Turning to his assistant, Garrett ordered coldly, “Arrange a press Share Surrender Agreement publicly and announce my withdrawal from the Harding Group.”
“Wait!”
Leo was unsure if Garrett would really leave the company and didn’t want to take any risks. With a livid face, he compromised, “I promise to leave Laney alone. And I won’t interfere in your affairs anymore.”
“Absolutely not!” Vera was determined that Garrett must divorce Laney and the baby must return to the Harding family. She couldn’t stand Leo compromising and giving in.
“Shut up!” Leo glared at Vera.
Garrett sneered, ignoring them both. He turned around and left with his assistant.
Garrett couldn’t stand being in such a depressing place for even a moment.
After he got back in the car, his assistant could still sense the fear lingering from the intense encounter they just had.
The assistant asked cautiously, “Mr. Harding, was that a bit extreme? Your parents only miss their granddaughter, and besides… You know where Mrs. Harding is now, right? Why don’t you just go get her?”
The assistant didn’t understand why Garrett didn’t go directly to Laney’s location since Garrett had found out that Laney was staying with her friend, Teresa. He believed that this was a perfect solution.
Leaning against the back seat, Garrett closed his eyes wearily and said in a low voice, “I have to clear all the obstacles before I can bring Laney and the baby back. I won’t put them in harm’s way again.”
Once Garrett left, Leo finally calmed down.
After all, he had been a big shot in Barnes for many years, and as soon as he recovered himself, he sensed that something was off.
Vera must have done something he wasn’t aware of, or Garrett wouldn’t be so determined to cut ties. Giving up the company’s shares to keep them away from Laney and the baby was a huge move.
Leo looked at Vera with sharp eyes and asked harshly, “What’s happened to Laney and the baby? Are you keeping something from me?” At first, Vera wanted to conceal the fact that she was deceived by Kailee, but Leo’s questioning left her flustered. In the end, she had to tell the truth to avoid losing Leo’s trust.
Hearing the truth, Leo flew into a rage.
He didn’t expect so many things had happened. No wonder Laney had to leave and Garrett was so angry that he wanted to cut off ties with the Harding family.
“How could you be so stupid?” Leo felt his blood pressure rise with anger. “It’s clear that Kailee wants to cause trouble between you and Laney. You’ve lived for so long, yet you are manipulated by a young woman!”

Thank you for the fast update! Welp, here I was thinking Laney was emotionally mature enough to handle a relationship but I see Natalie has to swoop in and instead of insisting Laney and Garrett talk it out, Natalie resorts to having Laney run away. I can’t stand how emotionally immature Natalie is. I’ll give Laney the benefit of the doubt since she had just given birth and I’m sure her emotions are all over the place. Even so she still seems to be more level headed than Natalie. I am hopeful that we’ll see Laney and Garrett back together. I think the reason author is so focused on Laney and Garrett is a setup to Brandon and Garrett working together again and the couples always having each other in their lives.
With all the unsettled chaos caused by Kailee and the Hardings , the move of Laney is reasonable and justified…Ill do the same if I were her…temporary separation from Garrett which will make him realize which is more important in his life…. grow up and be more decisive . Natalie did not impose or swayed Laney’s decision…she is just the supportive friend being that she is able to do it with her wealth and power…backed up by Brandon himself. It’s difficult to find a friend like that….Laney is very fortunate to have Natalie as a friend who is just reciprocating the good deed she have done by saving her from the car accident and from the advances of the ruthless Ritchie Klein. The chapters showcase the beautiful friendship between couples Brandon/Natalie and Garrett/Laney. Love it.

At last,Garett is finally able to tell his parents off of their bad behaviours towards Laney.hope Garett and Laney will be able to work things out for the sakes of their newborn baby and their marriage. Time is the essence for both Laney and Garett.
With Garett holding a press con re: his position in the Harding group/share surrender agreement ,the company’s future now hangs in the balance.

I’m soooo a fan of Ian. Damn! Love the character (hey…any plans to get Ian and Teresa together? I’m all in for that!😏). Ian gently pointed out Garrett’s mistakes and explained Laney’s situation. I really like the way he did it. Garrett truly could have done more. Laney taking time away from Garrett is good in a way. She has the right to be afraid of his family taking away her child. I’m glad Garrett understood her and accepted her decision and even trusted Ian.
Laney almost died saving Natalie. It’s good Natalie took care of her well.
Kailee would never stop it seems. Her deception should be exposed and Garrett should show no mercy at all. It’s good he found out the truth. He should get the evidence of her fake pregnancy test and expose the whole truth to public since she didnt stop from trying again.
I hope Vera never trusts Kailee again.

Oh, NO! Leo and Vera don’t even know that Laney gave birth prematurely because of Kailee using Lola. What Vera knows only is the picture and the recording pen inserted by Kailee on the album she sent by the coaching from Kailee. So many gaps. Natalie and Laney are just the same. They are both stubborn, not listening to explanations. They are both impulsive. Garrett is also with weird character.
This is my take on Natalie’s low profile atm. Since that day she did the walked-out queen on Brandon, the never ending chased from Brandon, the changing of accommodations,the nosey Johanna and her stinking attitudes towards Brandon-heaven knows why. I think the readers emotional backlash towards Natalie made the Authors and Writers think to let Natalie go underground for awhile to calm the readers. To me, it seemed a good thing it worked and shook Natalie so from timetotime she appear to be matured and nice to Brandon.I can only wish she stays that way incase it’s her turn to have a baby. To soften the blow, we have Garett and Laney’s story which was a good read and not too much stress in the end after each chapters. Whether there’s something good brewing about Brandon and Natalie i would like to see that. Watch this space!

I think Laney finally realized she needed a break from all the drama and focus on being a mom to her child. It is bad enough the in laws have no respect for her but for Garrett to say he married her out of sympathy was a low blow. Although he tried to make it right, the damage is already done. I am sure they will be okay but i would have done the same. Natalie is trying to be a friend because Laney did save her, we cannot blame her. This is what Laney wanted. Brandon is trying to be there for Natalie so i am happy about that. Although the last few chapters were based on Garrett, Laney and Kailee, they were overall good chapters. Now lets put an end to Kailee. Ian is a kind soul and i am sure he would always make sure Laney is okay. I am glad he opened up Garretts’s eyes a bit so he can see what he did all along. Sometimes we have to choose our family first!

Whoa!!! When you are hating on these two women (Nat & Laney) I can’t help to wonder…are you guys reading the same novel I am? Because I don’t think you are seeing the problem here…Laney is growing and coming into her own, and showing it when she’s going against this very toxic family. Plus having to deal with a husband she can’t see going against his manipulative mother and his authoritarian father. None of them are thinking about Laney (at all) or her daughter’s hapiness and safety, they only want to have total control. Now Garrett starts getting it too, finally! Nathalie is growing as well, helping her friend and trusting her own husband to help too, even if it’s against his own friend. Brandon is intelligent enough to see that Garrett needs to grow a backbone and take back his life before he can even think of winning back his wife’s trust. Also, I wonder how many wife’s would like to learn (and hear), this after giving birth, that their husband only married them out of pity!!!
Im on the same page with you….putting ourselves(married ladies) in the same shoes as Laney and Natalie will make it easier to empathize with their reaction/decision . I was slightly on the same situation as Laney …the long distance between controlling inlaws and overly considerate husband made the difference…he learned gradually who is most priority and we just celebrated our happiest 32nd yrs with our twin boys.

I actually like this new direction. It seems much more authentic than what has been posted lately. I was genuinely sad for Laney; she was heartbroken. I think less by the notion of Garrett cheating but more by the fact that he hid things from her, wasn’t there to protect her and support her with his parents, and was absent at the most important times. I think they love each other but it will be a long way back and a lot of work.

Laney’s move is the right move although sad for theBaby, they need to cool off not because of Kailee but because Laney changed to please Garrett and his parents.
