Just then, Luna woke up…
“Bleurgh…” Luna twitched and reached out to grasp Lulu’s hair with her tiny hand!
“It’s alright.” Lulu could not help smiling when she saw that and turned back to Zachary. “It’s alright, Mr. Slate-we’re right outside the apartment compound. I’d like to take Luna out for a stroll, and I’ll just walk inside.”
While neither Zachary nor Lulu were looking at Erma, Erma started to reach for Lulu.
Lulu took a step forward just then and stayed out of her grasp by chance!
Zachary reacted right then, grabbing Erma’s wrist and shoving her aside, almost knocking her off her feet.
He glared icily at her, leaving her petrified!
“Your severance fee has been paid,” he growled. “So I don’t want to see you near this place ever again. Do you understand?”
His intimidating glare left Erma petrified and hanging her head in fear. And with that warning, Zachary strode into the apartment himself. Meanwhile, Lulu had already brought Luna back to the apartment, feeling curious even as she opened the door.
“Weird…” she mused to herself. “Doesn’t he usually work late into the night? He came back really early today…”
Just then, the door opened again with a click, and the warm glow from within spilled out.
Lulu put aside the new clothes she just bought before putting Luna in her cradle.
“Good girl,” she said with a smile, poking Luna’s little cheeks. “Let’s get you some milk!”
There were many tins of baby formula though the last one was finished. The door opened with a click again when she arrived at the living room with the baby bottle, and she saw Zachary returning.
“Mr. Slate,” she greeted him with a professional smile.
He glanced at her briefly before turning away. “It’s already time to feed Luna?”
“Yes,” she replied, hanging up the suit he took off and left on the couch. At the same time, Zachary looked m around to see that the house had been cleaned, and he said, “I’ll get a new housemaid in a couple days.” With that, he turned and started to head for Luna’s room.
“Actually…” Lulu suddenly said behind him, still holding Luna’s bottle.
“What?” Zachary turned at th@ M
doorway of Luna’s bedroom, straightening when he saw that Lulu appeared hesitant. “You can speak freely.”
Lulu frowned, her fingers tightening around the baby bottle as she said, “If I’m allowed, I’d like to cook your baby’s meals.”
Before Zachary could speak, Lulu added, “As a professional child care worker, I’ve been trained in cooking proper nutritious meals for children.
If you’re hiring, a maid, you can leave the housework to her, while I’ll handle everything for your child, should I have your confidence.” Babies should start weaning around four months after birth, and before she returned to the country, Lulu had researched all the safe food products across the country. Now, she had an idea of what she should cook.
“That’s good,” Zachary said, nodding and appearing delighted. “You are a professional like you said-I have nothing to worry about by leaving Luna’s care to you.”
Then, after another long look at her, Zachary turned and headed into Luna’s room.
Luna was awake.
After being taken out for a stroll, she was excitedly flailing her stubby arms, looking utterly adorable.
An almost imperceptible tenderness showed on Zachary’s face as he looked at Luna. “You’re that happy, huh?”
Lulu handed him Luna’s bottle just then, and he started feeding the baby.
The baby must be hungry, too-she started to claw at the bottle when she felt it, her tiny pink lips searching for the nipple.
“Ms. Jones, is there anything to take note of while feeding babies?” Zachary suddenly asked as he turned.
Luna was smiling at Luna, pausing for a moment when her gaze met Zachary’s before going to work.
“Here!” she said as she demonstrated it to him. “Since Luna’s quite happy staying in bed, you don’t have to pick her up. But you also have to be careful, since she could choke easily if she’s in the wrong posture.”
Zachary quietly watched her working so delicately, just as she smiled when Luna started drinking eagerly when she reached the nipple. “Well done!” she exclaimed, almost reaching out to caress Luna’s cheeks.
However, she remembered the man behind her when her fingers almost reached Luna she was just a child care worker and must not cross the line.
“How was she today?” Zachary somehow ignored her move and strode forward.
“She wasn’t making a fuss and eating normally. She heated up briefly, but it subsided,” Lulu said as she watched Luna play with a teddy bear and suddenly turned. “Mr. Slate, Luna has a name now, but it can be a little formal using it constantly. You should give her a nickname too.” As she watched the baby’s smile, Lulu could not come up with one herself, even though she had started thinking about it days ago. She could not keep calling Luna “baby’, and a nickname would do the trick? “A nickname?” Zachary repeated softly, his eyes flashing as a breeze gusted over the window.
He lowered his head in thought since it had never crossed his mind, though he soon turned back to Lulu. “Right! I’m not particularly gifted in naming, so you can do it!”
“I’I do it?” Lulu pointed at herself in surprise, feeling a little awkward when he nodded.
“I don’t think that’s right,” she said she was still a child care worker and should be constantly aware of her place. “You should do it, Mr. Slate!”
She actually wanted to name her own daughter, but she had already given her child, the name Luna-it would be inappropriate if she gave Luna a nickname as well.
“Well, it’s fine if you don’t want to do it.” Zachary did not press the issue.
Shaking his head, he leveled a troubled look at Lulu before sighing and turning silent.
“Since you suggested Luna is a strong name like the moon goddess…”
He trailed off before gaining an epiphany and looking up at Lulu. “In that case, we can call her Moon!”
Moon?! That was so haphazard!
“Moon!” Zachary chuckled even as Lulu felt disgruntled inwardly “My daughter’s eyes are as bright as the moon, and I wish she would shine in the days to come.”
There was a deeper meaning, and it was quite good. With everything changing, it meant Lulu had severed her ties to the past.
Zachary would not have seen the child either nor remembered the times before…
“Hngh…”
Star had just finished her milk and was sweating over her forehead. Seeing the empty bottle, Lulu smiled and wiped Star’s sweat. “She’s such a glutton, but it’s proof that it’s healthy since she really needs the nutrients now!”
As she picked up the baby and played with her a little, Star’s eyes started drooping-babies get sleepy easily.
“Star…” Lulu murmured just then.
Zachary looked on and said nothing as he turned to leave the room. He had left work early but did not have the time to eat.
When he was thinking about getting something to eat from the kitchen, Lulu had already tucked Star back inside her cradle.
