Erma looked sharp, but she could not even persuade that babysitter? “If words don’t work, pay her!” Vivian snapped.
Zachary had hired that woman as a babysitter anyway, and she was probably not that rich!
“Pay… her?” Erma stammered. “But where would I have the money?” “What…” Vivian choked and had to take a deep breath to calm down. “Go talk to her again tonight, and name a price within thirty grand. Once you come to an agreement, I’ll wire her the money!”
Thirty grand!
Erma was delighted to hear the number and nodded repeatedly. “Okay, okay- don’t worry, I’ll find her again!”
She was delighted even as she hung up.
Others notwithstanding, if Vivian did pay her that much, she might be able to siphon off some of it.
Hence, ignoring the curious looks others were giving her, she hurried towards the gates-if she recalled correctly, there was a nearby store for baby products. That babysitter must have gone there!
At that shop, a store assistant promptly approached Lulu when she saw her. It was an affluent neighborhood, after all-most of the patrons were rich.
“Hello, how can I help?” the store assistant greeted Lulu warmly, and even smiled at the baby in her arms. “This must be your daughter. She’s so adorable-she looks just like you!”
Lulu paused the resemblance might be obvious before, but now… Shaking her head, she turned to look at the rows of baby products. “Do you have clothes for children? It’s getting warmer these days, and her clothes are getting stuffy.”
The store assistant promptly went on to show and elaborate on everything they had in the store, leaving Lulu frowning.
Were all store assistants that enthusiastic these days?
Whatever she could pick the clothes by herself. She preferred simple, comfortable ones instead of the elaborate ones anyway…
“I’d like to check out the strollers,” she said.
The store assistant nodded repeatedly and enthusiastically. “Of course. Everything we have are high grade and imported. Check these out…” When she was done, she returned to introducing the clothes, “Like the strollers, most of the clothes are imported. The fabric is soft and absorbent, suitable for babies’ sensitive skin!”
Lulu touched it-it was soft and was at least better than Luna’s current clothes.
It was not as if the current ones were bad-as a man, Zachary would have asked someone else to buy Luna’s clothes, and expensive did not mean suitable.
At the same time, the store assistant added, “Since it’s getting warmer cottonight get from clothing children. Our fabric is a new development that ensures your child is perfectly comfortable!”
Lulu did not care about imported goods-atfter living abroad for years, her priority was no longer branding but viability!
Instead of getting tricked, she picked the better ones. “Wrap these up.” Those clothes were imported and Ve expensive, so the store assistant was beside herself with joy seeing that Lulu was buying so many pieces at once.
“One moment, please. I’ll get you new ones right away!”
While the store assistant was away, Erma returned.
Dropping to a crouch and grabbing Lulu’s leg, she cried, “Please, lady! I’m begging you-llet me keep working for Mr. Slate! I promise not to mess up!”
Many people outside were quickly drawn by the commotion, and upon seeing the plainly-dressed woman crouching on the floor, they were immediately in an uproar!
“What is this, bullying?”
“No way. Carrying a baby?”
“Should we record this and post it online?”
Sensing danger, Lulu promptly lowered her head, glared into Erma’s flustered eyes, and cleared her throat. “Look-Mr. Slate will be leaving work soon. I’ll call him and talk about your situation, and I won’t argue if he agrees to take you back!”
People would misunderstand if they kept tussling and causing a scene! And as soon as Lulu was finished, Erma briskly rose to her feet, grinning ear-to-ear. “Thank you, lady! Don’t worry-as long as Mr. Slate is willing to meet me, I won’t bother you ever again!”
Just then, the store assistant returned with the bags of clothes. Seeing that, Erma reached for it smilingly. “I’ll carry those for you, lady! “Nope!” Lulu snapped and coolly took the bags.
She could not help being paranoid-with the way Erma was hounding her, there was no telling if Erma just wanted her job back or intended something else.
Naturally, Lulu was definitely not letting Erma touch any of Luna’s belongings!
As they stepped out of the store, the sun had dimmed considerably. Lulu started to head back to the apartment, with Erma constantly following her.
Then, just as they were heading into the apartment compound, a voice spoke behind them.
After the meeting at his office, Zachary checked the security cameras in his home as usual.
Surprised to see nobody, he became worried and hurried home earlier. “Wait, slow down!” he suddenly called out on the way back.
The chauffeur looked up and just happened to spot Lulu. “Isn’t that the new babysitter?”
Zachary stayed silent, while the chauffeur slowed the car and eventually stopped it beside Lulu.
Lulu turned and straightened when she saw the car.
“Mr. Slate?” she murmured and quickly turned to Erma. “There he’s here! Didn’t you want him to take you back? Go tell him yourself!”
She was really reluctant to let Erma hound her and really wanted Zachary to fend her off.
However, Erma was left frowning, afraid to walk up.
On the other hand, Zachary appeared grumpy.
He was not one who would take back what he said, just as he had an idea what was happening here after a quick look.
Pressured, Erma started pulling on Lulu’s arm and hid behind her, whispering, “Lady… could you talk to him for me?”
“What?” Zachary growled as he glared sharply at Erma. “I told you no longer require your services, didn’t I? Why did you come back?”
As the people around turned toward her, Erma was left petrified by Zachary’s growl. “M-Mr. Slate…”
At the same time, Lulu strode off,
V
seeing that Erma was refusing to talk. She knew that Zachary would never take Erma back anyway, and hence told him, “She kept hounding me and asked me to talk to you. She wants her job back-“
“Absolutely not!” Zachary cut her short before she could finish. “She can’t even take care of my daughter. I’d never let someone like her in my house!”
Erma panicked right then, but what could she do?!
“I-1…” she stammered.
However, she could only watch as Zachary nodded at Lulu. “Get in the car. I’ll take you home!”
