“I’ll be back in the evening.” He grinned.
Abigail ignored him and told Pierre, “Yes, I’ll have breakfast.”
She did not know Diarmuid was going to work, but he would need food either way if he was to work.
“Yes, ma’am,” Pierre replied, and headed to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Abigail strolled out into the courtyard, where a gentle breeze brushed through the air, ruffling the trees nearby.
It was certainly a relaxing environment, with greenery stretching as far as the eyes could see and blocking the roads outside so it felt like one was enveloped in nature.
Abigail breathed in the fresh air and flexed her arms before returning inside to find Diarmuid coming downstairs.
He was dressed formally in a suit, so she asked, “Going to work?”
“Yeah,” he said, walking toward the dining hall. “But I won’t go if you ask.”
Abigail smiled as she followed. “I’m not going to stop you.”
Diarmuid shot her a sideways glance, looking clearly upset.
Abigail simply pretended not to see. “Eat.”
If she kept clinging to him and stopped him from going to work, would that not show that she was too clingy and could not be apart from him at all?
And he was going to work, not messing around-why would she stop him?
As Diarmuid slowly ate his breakfast, he suddenly said, “I have a date today.”
Abigail was still chewing her food as she asked, “What date?”
Swallowing it, she stared at him for a while before adding, “Are there other women present?” “Yes,” Diarmuid replied.
“Is she pretty?” Abigail pressed.
Diarmuid smiled at Abigail but did not answer.
Abigail put down her fork right then. “Fine. You’re not going outside today.”
Although her marriage with Diarmuid was going steady, there were times she had to play along too.
She stared at the man before her, who was in the prime of his life and brimming with vigor. And there certainly was no shortage of attractive ladies in this country, not to mention her own mother’s tumultuous marriage…
She got up from the table and walked around to him, sitting on his lap and wrapping her arms around his neck as she purred,
‘Stay home today with me.”
“I’m just teasing you,” Diarmuid replied, putting an arm around her waist. ‘I won’t have time even if you asked-but I’ll get home soon.”
Abigail looked him straight in the eye. “Is it really work or are you seeing a pretty face?”
Diarmuid smiled as he pinched her cheek. “You’re really lacking confidence, huh?”
That was not the case, but a man’s ego should be stroked-if she was unmoved, he would definitely think that she did not care about him at all.
And that was exactly what she was doing here.
“Yeah. Then come back soon-l still have something to discuss with you,” she said.
“Just tell me now,” Diarmuid told her.
However, Abigail was hesitant-she just came back, so she would definitely upset him if she told him that she still had to return to
Minerva.
“It’s about Lulu. She-“
She barely began when Diarmuid got to his feet, cutting her short and clearly reluctant to listen. “Just remembered-l have a meeting.”
Abigail caught his wrist nonetheless-she already started, so she might as well finish it.
“She’s seriously hurt, so I can’t abandon her. You can understand, right?” she asked, leaning against his chest to cajole him.
Diarmuid lowered his gaze in turn and asked, “Are you really leaving as soon as you’re back?”
Abigail quickly shook her head. “No-I will only leave in another few days. She has no one except me with her while she’s having surgery. Also, don’t tell Zachary about her.”
“Yeah,” Diarmuid replied quietly.
He actually had no intention to stop Abigail, but she had been gone for a while.
Abigail gave him a peck on the cheek right then. “You’re the best.”
Diarmuid was left speechless-because he agreed to let her leave?!
He suddenly felt cheap being nice!
Still, he did have work to do and left after breakfast.
Abigail did not follow since she could not help him at work at all… unless someone got sick.
However, that also meant she was alone, since everyone else left so that she could spend time alone with Diarmuid.
She decided to head out to check on Baby’s lesson-she took a cab since every other car was taken.
It was not easy to get one around, so she strolled along toward an oak tree while admiring the scenery.
The vegetation there was beautiful, and it was relaxing with the gentle breeze brushing her cheeks.
She was strolling slowly, while studying the curious architecture of some of the nearby buildings.
Still, she turned without realizing it and noticed a silhouette quickly moving to hide.
She frowned-was she seeing things or was someone following her?
She kept strolling forward leisurely to prove her guess and soon heard footsteps a little far from herself.
The oak tree was shedding leaves and footsteps could easily be heard.
As such, she pretended to be strolling along casually and waited to turn abruptly, giving her stalker no time to hide!
Zachary was chuckling but he did not appear embarrassed.
Abigail, however, was not humoring him. “Why were you following me?”
“How was I following you?” Zachary argued. “You don’t own this road. I can use it just like you.”
“Weren’t you going sightseeing with Jean? What are you doing here? You took one of the cars too.”
“We did. We just didn’t go that far.”
Abigail was left speechless and asked grumpily, “So? What do you want?”
“Nothing,” Zachary said. “Just taking a stroll, killing time.”
Abigail ignored that and strode off to try to shake him off.
Zachary, however, clung to her like a wad of gum. “It’s dangerous going alone. Why don’t I come with you?”
“Nope.” Abigail refused right then. “Keep following me, and I’ll tell Diarmuid you’re bothering me.”
Zachary pouted. “Don’t we go way back?”
