Chapter 46 – Second Chance Love of the Missing Groom Novel

Samantha tried to reach for Abigail again, but Zachary stopped her and warned , “Mess around again, and I’m calling the cops!”

That finally kept the woman in line.

Leading Abigail to his car, he asked, “What’s going on here? I told you I’d help you get discharged. Why were you trying to leave early?”

Abigail kept her head down. “I just felt like it.”

“Want me to drive you home?” he asked.

Abigail nodded. “Okay.”

Neither of them spoke before they reached the mansion.

When they reached the front gates and Zachary stopped his car, he hesitated for a moment before telling Abigail, “I got Diarmuid a woman like you’d suggested last night, but he did not even touch her.”

Abigail suddenly looked up, slightly surprised and cheering up without knowing it herself.

Nonetheless, she kept her indifferent expression. “Really?

Zachary nodded. “Of course. Would I lie to you?”

Abigail naturally believed him.

Then, as she alighted, he suddenly called out to her again. “Abigail…”

“Yeah?” She turned around.

Holding her gaze for a while, Zachary then asked, “Has Lulu ever contacted you since?”

Abigail suddenly avoided his gaze. “…No.”

She was not lying to Zachary, but Lulu Adams had forbidden Abigail from telling Zachary about where she had gone.

Lulu was Abigail’s senior in medical school, being in Zachary’s year and the object of his affection.

They were the most admired sweethearts on campus, but broke up later on, with Lulu leaving the city soon after.

Zachary had been looking for her ever since.

Now, his expression turned mournful even as he said, ” Please tell me if she does reach out. I think I want a reason even if I’d agree to breaking up with her, instead of parting ways without a word.”

Abigail nodded. “Okay.”

She could not help feeling guilty toward Zachary just then, but she had promised Lulu that she would not breathe a word.

Entering the mansion , she found that Mrs. Watson had packed up several food containers and was preparing to head to the hospital, unaware that Abigail was getting discharged today.

Still, she was happy to see Abigail return. “Welcome back, Mrs. Althoff!”

Abigail nodded as Mrs. Watson came to help her inside.

At the same time, Diarmuid came downstairs, and did not look her way after he saw her return, let alone say a word to her.

After all, he still remembered her suggesting to Zachary to get him a woman.

What did she take him for?

Did she think he would kiss just any woman thrown his way?

On the other hand, Abigail could tell that he was upset, but was unaware of the reason.

After he finally left, she asked Mrs. Watson, “What’s with him? Who got him upset?”

Mrs. Watson shook her head. “I don’t know.”

Abigail wondered then if it was about last night, but if he was, should he not be angry at Whitney instead?

Whitney was the one who deceived him, and her attempt to drug Abigail missed and got Diarmuid instead.

Zachary also mentioned that Diarmuid did not touch the woman he brought for him… so it must have been a grueling night.

In the end, Whitney was the reason it had happened in the first place… so he was probably upset at her, was he not?

Naturally , Abigail did not dwell on it since she was never going to reach an answer.

As afternoon arrived, she was sprawled in front of her laptop and answering patient consultations online.

That was when Mrs. Watson dashed upstairs urgently, yelping, “Mrs. Althoff! This is horrible-look!”

Mrs. Watson had always been calm and composed — why was she panicking out of the blue?

Abigail quickly put aside her work and asked, “What‘s wrong, Mrs. Watson?”

Mrs. Watson held out her phone in front of her. “Here, take a look.”

Abigail glanced at the screen and saw that it was a video of the little piece of theater that Samantha put together at Central Hospital this morning. Someone has uploaded it online, but it was clipped and framed in a way that portrayed Abigail as the villainess.

She did not need imagination to tell who was responsible –Samantha herself had done all that this morning solely for this!

With networking being as advanced as it is, it is very convenient to get someone flamed online if one is willing to pay enough for traffic. After all, netizens are rarely smart and believe whatever they see, never once trying to uncover the truth for themselves. In fact, the worst ones are so warped in world view and character that they could drive a perfectly nice person over the edge!

She remembered a similar case that made the news recently, where a girl had entrusted a courier for the delivery of some food to her father. The girl tried to tip the courier for his help, but the courier refused, insisting that he was just happy to help. Still, the girl felt guilty and grateful , so she sent him fifty dollars worth of gift cards.

That, however, left her flamed by netizens for giving too little.

The courier had been altruistic, while the girl was conveying her gratitude, only for her to suffer such ignominy.

Naturally, unable to bear the widespread condemnation, the girl committed suicide.

It was obvious from that case alone that netizens could kill without doing anything physical , making them far more horrific than the hangman!

And this was ultimately Samantha‘s goal– to make netizens flame Abigail to death.

Abigail, however, was not that narrow–minded that she would decide to end herself over some petty remarks.

Instead, she was going to cherish herself more.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Watson was grumbling, “Who are these people? This is ridiculous! How could they say such horrible things ? Telling people to die without knowing them?”

As every comment beneath the video was an one–sided outrage campaign against Abigail, the mere sight of it angered Mrs. Watson.

On the other hand, Abigail took a moment to calm herself before smiling at Mrs. Watson. “Don‘t worry–none of it is real anyway, and I‘ve not done anything wrong. As long as I know what actually happened and hold a clear conscience, there is nothing to fear.”

She would not get overly concerned over unnecessary matters for the sake of her child, and unwittingly stroked her own belly.

“But…” Mrs. Watson still appeared indignant when she noticed what Abigail was doing, and asked, “Are you having a stomach ache, Mrs. Althoff?”
