Chapter 4 – Twisted Fate of a Billionaire’s Daughter Undercover

Jessie’s heart ached. She and Ashlyn had known each other since childhood. She had never seen Ashlyn, the proud and pampered Miss Ramos, cry like this.

And all this was because of that bastard, Gordon!

“I’ll go home as soon as I finish what I have to do here,” said Ashlyn.

From the other end of the line, Stevie also felt a lump in his throat. “Okay. your mother and I are waiting for you.”

“See you, Dad.”

After hanging up the phone, Ashlyn had to bury her face in her hands.

She was a grown woman now, but her parents still worried about her. And all because of her cruel husband.

Ashlyn felt guilty towards her parents.

Jessie took the phone and waited quietly for Ashlyn to let it all out.

Five minutes later, Ashlyn gradually calmed down. Jessie handed her a tissue, which she accepted gratefully and wiped her tears. In a hoarse voice, she asked, “Can I borrow some marketing accounts from your cousin’s company?”

The famous Savoy Entertainment was under the management of Payne Walker, Jessie’s cousin. For the daily marketing of its stars, small companies under Savoy Entertainment had many marketing accounts.

Jessie was stunned for a moment. When she realized what Ashlyn was really asking, she quickly unlocked her phone and muttered, “Wait. I’ll ask him right now!”

“Okay. Thanks.”

Ashlyn’s weary, reddened eyes looked out the window and flitted over to the Crowbar Technologies’ building, and she smiled bitterly.

How could she have ever thought that she could make Gordon fall in love with her?

She had tried for three whole years. Fortunately, she was able to realize that she couldn’t win his heart because it belonged to someone else.

It was probably for the best. At least she had figured it out before she had wasted more of her youth.

But all of a sudden, her expression darkened. All these years, she had taken the blame and suffered countless grievances. She wasn’t about to let this slide so easily.

As soon as Jessie finished talking on the phone, she turned her head and saw that Ashlyn was staring out of the window absent-mindedly.

It was dark outside. Half of Ashlyn’s face was enveloped in shadows.

Jessie could tell that her best friend was still depressed.

“Hey, let’s have some fun tonight.”

Ashlyn turned her head and glanced at Jessie. “I’m out. I want to get some rest.”

Jessie shrugged and started the car. When the traffic lights turned red, she stopped the car and glanced at Ashlyn, who looked better. “You seem to be in a good mood,” she commented.

“I cried for a few days after my dog passed away. Gordon doesn’t deserve my tears.”

Three years of her life had been wasted. Now, she was going to rise above the ashes. Why should she be sad?

Ashlyn’s words came as a surprise to Jessie. She didn’t expect that her friend would compare Gordon to her deceased dog.

But after mulling over it for a while, Jessie realized her words made sense. After all, Gordon was nowhere near as loyal as a dog.

He didn’t deserve a single tear from Ashlyn at all!

Jessie was initially a little worried about Ashlyn, but now it seemed that she had underestimated her best friend’s resilience.

Before ten o’clock that evening, Ashlyn went to sleep. On the contrary, Jessie stayed up late battling with people on the Internet.

When Jessie staggered out of her room with bleary eyes the next morning, Ashlyn had already gotten dressed and was about to head out.

Ashlyn was a pretty, soft woman. She had beautiful eyes and delicate features, which made her particularly alluring.

Her clothes were simple but had a hint of sexiness today. She wore a boat-necked, dark brown sweater over dark blue jeans and a pair of black Oxford shoes. Her long hair hung loosely around her slender shoulders. She was the perfect combination of tenderness and sexiness.

Jessie was very satisfied with the way Ashlyn dressed up. Her clothes didn’t look too attention-grabbing, but she still looked extremely charming.

It was simply great!

“I’m going out,” Ashlyn announced casually.

She picked up the phone on the table and waved at Jessie.

But before she could leave, Jessie rushed over and threw her arms around her warmly. “Go ahead. Today’s the beginning of your new life!”

Ashlyn arrived at the gate of the court five minutes before nine o’clock.

Gordon had not come yet.

At nine o’clock, the door to the court clerk’s office opened on the dot.

Ashlyn lowered her head and checked the time on her phone. Gordon was always punctual, but today, he was late.

At five past nine, she saw Gordon stride in.

He was wearing a well-tailored suit as usual, and his sharp face was expressionless.

When their eyes met, Gordon slightly tilted his head and watched coldly as she approached.

It wasn’t the first time he had looked at her so coldly. In the past, Ashlyn always felt hurt when he looked at her like this. But today, she felt nothing.

“Good morning, Gordon. Here’s a copy of the divorce agreement,” Ashlyn said as she handed the document to him.

Gordon’s expression darkened. “Have you thought it through?”

“Yes.”

Ashlyn locked eyes with him firmly.

She wasn’t thinking clearly when she married him, but now, she definitely was.

Hearing the resoluteness in her voice, Gordon frowned unhappily. “Good,” he said gruffly.

He sneered inwardly and hoped she had better not regret this.

Without saying anything more, Ashlyn walked briskly to the office.

They got the divorce forms and filed them. Then, they paid the filing fees to process their divorce.

All they had to do was wait for the judge to finalize the divorce.

After that, the two of them had nothing to do with each other.

After everything was done, Gordon turned around and left without so much as glancing at her.

Ashlyn wasn’t surprised. He had long wanted to get rid of her. Now that his wish was fulfilled, of course he didn’t want to look at her any more.

In Gordon’s eyes, she was probably a vicious and scheming woman, like what the netizens painted her to be.

It didn’t matter anymore. They had severed all ties with each other after all.

However, when Ashlyn walked out of the court, she was surprised to see that Gordon hadn’t left yet.

“You made Arabella lose her baby. Even though we’ve divorced, you should go to the hospital and apologize to her.”

As soon as he finished speaking, a gust of wind blew over, and Ashlyn had never felt an autumn wind so cold before.

She had thought that because they had been married for three years, Gordon would feel a little sad after their divorce. Now Ashlyn felt that she had still been too naive.

She raised her head to look at the man in front of her and suddenly smiled. “You’re right. For the sake of our history, you can rest assured that I’ll take responsibility for what I’ve done.”

However, she wasn’t going to admit to something she hadn’t done.

“By the way, as a way of showing my sincerity, I’ve prepared a big gift for Arabella. Please tell her.”

Then, without waiting for a response, Ashlyn took one last look at Gordon and left.
