Chapter 39 – Second Chance Love of the Missing Groom Novel

Nonetheless, Diarmuid had calmned down considerably, and was a lot less furious than when he found out that Abigail was pregnant.

Even his tone sounded even now. “She looks a little serious. How soon can she recover?”

“It would take at least half a month, if not the entire month,” Zachary replied.

In truth, he had deliberately given Diarmuid a longer timeframe. Even if Abigail could recover from most of her injuries within the week, the bruises would be staying on her body for a while.

While it would not stop her from getting off her bed or walking, she should be staying in bed and resting for at least ten days or two weeks if she wanted to keep the child in her belly safe. She should only move around normally after showing no other signs of potential miscarriage. “I see,” Diarmuid replied. “Take good care of her for me.”

Zachary nodded. “I will.”

Diarmuid turned to glance at the ward once more before leaving, while Zachary waited until he was gone from sight before entering the ward, and quickly asked Abigail, “So? How did it go?”

“Not good,” she replied. “He doesn’t want to divorce me at all, because he insists that just keeping me around is enough torture for me.” “Is he nuts?” Zachary exclaimed. “Also, isn’t he torturing himself by keeping you around?”

“He’s nuts,” Abigail said in agreement, pursing her lips. Zachary suddenly remembered Stan telling him that Diarmuid had feelings for Abigail, and said gingerly, “Actually… Abigail, maybe the reason he’s not divorcing is because he actually has feelings for you.”

They were both murderers who had killed her child. There was no way she would feel anything toward them other than loathing! “But what are you going to do if Diarmuid still refuses to divorce you?” Zachary reminded her then. “You can hide your pregnancy for a few more months, but there’s no way you can hide it as more time passes by.”

In reality, Abigail had an idea, but she did not tell Zachary-he was too much of a friend to Diarmuid.

And if Zachary were to find out, it was only expected that Diarmuid would find out.

As such, she simply acted as if she had no plans, and said, “I have no idea. We’ll just have to cross that bridge when we reach it.”

“If push comes to shove, you just have to run away in secret,” Zachary suggested. “Just stay out of Diarmuid’s mind, and he’ll eventually forget about you.” Abigail gave him a dark look. “Do you really believe that Diarmuid would ever fail to find me once he sets his mind on it?” “Well, no…” Zachary muttered, perfectly aware of what Diarmuid was like and how he did things “Alright, I’m sleepy now. I need some rest,” Abigail said then. “Okay,” Zachary said as he started to leave. “Just call me when you need me.” “Sure,” Abigail murmured. Then, as Zachary opened the door, she suddenly called out to him. “Zachary… Thank you.” “No, you don’t have to thank me,” Zachary said, giving her a look. “There’s no need for that between us.”

Abigail flashed a faint smile.

Exhausted, she fell asleep soon after Zachary left.

Later at night, Sheryl visited Abigail again, and brought some food. After eating some of it, she said solemnly, “Mom, I have something to tell you.” Sheryl gave her a sympathetic look. “Okay, tell me.”

“I want to divorce Diarmuid, but he’s stubbornly refusing,” Abigail said with an even tone.” There’s no way I can live with him, and the only choice for me is to speak away and run

– I have to escape somewhere he’d never find me.”

Holding her gaze, Sheryl told her, “It’s the same for me. I asked your father for a divorce, but he’s determined to stop me too. I’m thinking about going through the legal system to get it done, but since you’re having trouble getting a divorce as well, we should just run away together… We’ll go to a city where no one knows us and start a new life.”

Abigail nodded. “But we need to leave without leaving any traces – do you understand, Mom?’

“I know.” Sheryl nodded, “We need to keep quiet if we are to make a clean getaway.” “Come here…”

Abigail then beckoned for Sheryl to get closer, and leaned in to whisper into her mothers ear.

As Sheryl nodded repeatedly, Abigail finished. “I’ll transfer the money to your account. Take your time to settle down over there, and I’ll join you after a while.”

“Don’t worry,” Sheryl replied. “I’ll make sure everything is ready when you arrive.”

Still, she pointed out worriedly, “But you’re here alone, and you’re injured…” – “I can handle this, Mom.” Abigail flashed a bright smile at her.

Sheryl nodded-right now, she must do her best not to be a burden to her daughter, and maintain an exit route for her.

She would stay with Abigail for the night, but leave early the next morning. The mother and child duo trusted each other, and they would be counting on each other to escape their currently tumultuous lives.

As morning arrives, Sheryl reluctantly leaves the hospital-Abigail still needed to stay in the hospital to recover for the time being.

Meanwhile, Diarmuid had arrived at another hospital to check on Stan. The man had since regained consciousness, but he was extensively injured and would need rest for a long while.

At the same time, Whitney was constantly watching Diarmuid and probing his current intentions.

Deliberately maintaining a haggard appearance, she gingerly murmured, “Diarmuid… My heart hurts so much… Our child is gone…”

Diarmuid’s expression was aloof, and he was not even bothered to glance her way.

“Diarmuid…” Whitney persisted, inching her way closer.

That was when Diarmuid’s secretary strode upand stepped between them, while telling Diarmuid, “We’ve found the doctor, Mr. Althoff.”

Diarmuid finally turned around to look at Whitney as he coldly growled, “Bring him over.” At the same time, Whitney was dumbstruck as a sense of panic slowly seized her.” Doctor? What doctor?”

Diarmuid then took a seat on the couch in the ward, folding his legs elegantly as he spoke,” Weren’t you saying that you suffered from a miscarriage? And after that, the doctor who operated on you fled for no reason? My man managed to reach him, and we’re bringing him back as we speak.”

Whitney’s legs caved, and she almost dropped to the floor in sheer terror.

In reality, she had been the first person who regained consciousness after the accident. She quickly spent a huge amount of money to pay off the doctor operating her, so that he would tell Diarmuid’s secretary that she had suffered from a miscarriage and lost her baby.

The money she gave him naturally included the money he would need to run away… but Diarmuid was saying that he had now been captured and brought back? Whitney began, “Listen to me, Diarmuid…” “You can talk all you want later. Patience,” Diarmuid growled as he suddenly turned toward her.

Amenacing aura seemed to spill from his towering form like a storm, and Whitney’s legs seemed to turn to jelly as she dropped to the floor. But even though she was trembling, she slowly crawled forward and gingerly grabbed the hem of his trousers, crying, “Please, don’t listen to his lies… Would I ever lie to you…?”

Diarmuid looked down on her, dragging her own body over the floor miserably. Was there anything about her that was likable? Was there anything about her that was worth his affection? And yet, he had fallen for her that night.

Now, it only seemed that the tenderness in the darkness would not last in the light.

Meanwhile, Diarmuid’s secretary returned, leading two men who were keeping the doctor restrained.

There was bruising on the doctor’s face.

It was obvious that he had been interrogated beforehand, and the instant he saw Whitney, he cried, “That’s her — that’s the woman! She paid me off and told me to lie to you!”

Whitney promptly looked up and shot him an angry glare. “What are you talking about?! I don’t even know you!”

Naturally, she was not going to admit to anything, and it was true that the doctor was not an acquaintance of hers. In fact, he would not have lied in the first place if he was not enticed by the money offered, but now that he had been captured by Diarmuid, he was suddenly perfectly aware of whom he should never have offended.

“Yes, you don’t know me, but it’s the truth that you’d definitely bribed me and told me to tell a lie. I have evidence that I received your money, and it’ll just take a quick check to find out who I got the money from.”

Pausing for a moment, the doctor then added, “Also, you were never pregnant. That can be checked as well – we happen to be in a hospital, after all.”

“Don’t try to slander me!” Whitney screamed, struggling even though her fate was sealed. “Please, Diarmuid, you can’t listen to his lies…”

“Lies or not, we’ll know once we’ve checked,” Diarmuid retorted, and held out a hand.

His secretary promptly presented him with the bank records, which showed that Whitney had indeed bribed the doctor.
