To no one’s surprise, Diarmuid reverted to his usual ruthlessness in the next instant.
“Get out!”
Abigail promptly alighted, thinking to herself that she did not want to be in his car anyway!
However, her sprained foot hurt more than she expected and she lost her balance, once against falling into Diarmuid’s arms. He clearly felt the firmness and warmth of her breasts pressing against his own chest, and though he stiffened, he sneered. “You really won’t give up any chance to seduce me, huh?” Abigail’s face was crimson from frustration. He was being a shameless jerk here! Still, she was not about to squabble with him, and simply took off her heels since they were making her gait unsteady, resorting to walking barefooted.
Diarmuid’s expression darkened as he stared at her dainty figure and the fair skin on her slim legs. Be that as it may, he deliberately floored the gas pedal so that his car bounded past her, kicking up a gust that sent her skirt floating into the air. She had to press it down, and clared at his departing car.
How childish could he be?!
Nonetheless, that was when a woman called out from behind. “Abigail Bernstein!”
Abigail turned around to find Whitney standing nearby, glaring at her with naked hatred while her visage contorted with savagery.
She almost lost her mind when she realized that Abigail and Diarmuid were married!
She had invited Diarmuid to her own farewell party, and tried to flaunt her relationship with him.
On the other hand, Abigail had pretended she did not know Diarmuid all this while.
Did she just want to see her make a fool of herself? Whitney certainly felt like a monkey at a circus right then!
No matter how much she flaunted, she was nothing to Abigail. At the same time, she did not understand-how could a woman like Abigail marry Diarmuid? Did she have anything going on for her? She might be on the pretty side, but she was skinny and there was nothing alluring about her. Why would anyone like her?
. She must have done something underhanded!
Meanwhile, Abigail was still stunned to find Whitney there. Still, she soon realized that Whitney must have been dining here as well, and saw her with Diarmuid!
“You misunderstand”.
She had barely spoken when a crazed Whitney lunged at her so quickly she could not react, and slapped her across the face, instantly leaving a burning mark on her cheek!
Whitney’s hair was disheveled like a madwoman’s, and she was clawing at Abigail as she yelled, “You bitch!” .
Abigail was left stunned for seconds, but when she came to her senses, she pushed Whitney away unceremoniously! However, she forgot that she was holding her shoes, and the heel scratched a red scar over Whitney’s face!
“How dare you hit me back!” Whitney screamed, her eyes bulging in rage. Still, when she tried to charge at Abigail again, Abigail coolly warned, “Hit me again, and I’m calling the cops.” Whitney paused right then, her upraised hand freezing mid-air.
She calmed hersell-this was not the time to lose herself.
Diarmuid’s marriage to Abigail had never been announced. Did that not mean that Diarmuid did not like her?
Moreover, Diarmuid had promised to marry her. Did that not mean Diarmuid would divorce Abigail at any time?
The very thought calmed her, and she remembered that she had left a bad impression when she asked Diarmuid for money before. What would he think of her if she hurt Abigail now? She still had a chance — Diarmuid and Abigail did not announce their marriage, because they did not want anyone to know. In the end, she and Diarmuid were ‘destined’ for each other.
“I’m warning you, Abigail!” she screamed hysterically. “Don’t try to take Diarmuid from me. He’s mine!”
Though she understood, she could not accept that Abigail was married to Diarmuid.
She was the rightful Mrs. Althoff! Abigail quietly watched as Whitney lost her wits. She never had any intention of competing against Whitney for Diarmuid’s affection, and somehow stumbled upon Whitney’s alter ego… She was just like a fishwife, but one could only expect that much from Diarmuid’s tastes.
“Just you wait!” Whitney growled as she shot Abigail a vicious look just then, and turned to leave
Abigail was left standing there, spacing out, when Stan stepped out of the diner.
He had just concluded negotiations with Mark, and found Abigail standing by the door. Looking around but not finding Diarmuid, he approached her and asked, “Where’s Mr. Althoff?” Abigail pulled down her hair to hide her cheeks. “He left.”
Despite her best efforts, Stan saw the red palm print on her face, and his heart skipped a beat just then. Did Diarmuid slap her? Having followed Diarmuid around for a while now, he knew how callous Diarmuid can be… But surely liitting a woman was too far! “Well…” he began, pausing for a moment in hesitation before continuing, “I think you should be wary of your own status in whatever you do. Even if your marriage to Mr. Althoff isn’t publicly known, you’re still his wife. I mean, what would Mr. Wickers think of Mr. Althoff if he were to find out?” Abigail looked into Stan’s eyes then, and really wanted to ask the man if she would have to work as a dance instructor if Diarmuid was not basically trying to kill her? She would not have met Ms. Lang and Mr. Wickers otherwise, let alone be here! In the end, Diarmuid had caused everything! Still, she decided to bear with it.
“I’ll watch out,” she said, pausing for a moment before asking, “By the way, will your boss agree to the investment?” “Of course-Mr. Althoff had planned to invest in Mr. Wickers’ business in the first place,” Stan explained.
Abigail sighed in relief inwardly, and cheered up considerably.
At least the day did not end on a completely sour note. “Thank you,” she told Stan, and tried to get a taxi.
Stan stayed long enough to ensure that she was not going back to Mark, and left. Nonetheless, there were not many taxis around the diner, and she took out her phone to check the time after a while.
That was when a car slowly stopped near here. “May I give you a ride?” Abigail looked up at the person in the car, her eyes abruptly widening. Why did it have to be him?!
