“Okay, Miss Ramos.”
Talia was happy knowing that Ashlyn would not remarry Gordon.
The news of Ashlyn and Gordon’s wedding, however, had spread quickly within the company. Everyone was talking about it.
Knowing that Ashlyn yielded, Nathaniel instructed people to spread the news about Ashlyn and Gordon getting remarried.
Nathaniel planned for their wedding to be held in the middle of the next month without consulting anyone. He even set all preparations in motion for such an event
The remarriage of Ashlyn and Gordon was not only a hot topic in Courtbush, but everywhere else as well.
When Stevie and Vivien heard about the wedding, they wondered if it was just another one of Nathaniel’s tricks. Ashlyn told them it was true, however, when they asked her about it.
Hearing her answer caused Stevie and Vivien sad and frustrated.
Devin felt even more pain than them.
He was still reeling from the conversation he had with Ashlyn this morning. The news of her remarriage to Gordon was unbearable.
In most situations, Devin would not have believed the news.
Last night, however, Gordon told him about it. He knew Gordon well enough to know he wouldn’t lie about such things.
In just hours, everyone knew about Ashlyn and Gordon getting back together. The wedding date was set for November 16th, the following month. Devin looked ashen and gloomy when he went to work that morning. Since Galen had been with Devin for six years, he knew by just one glance that his boss was in a terrible mood. #
Ashlyn and Gordon’s reunion was a real catastrophe for Devin. Galen watched Devin from the doorway for several moments before he knocked on his door, document in hand. “Can I come in?”
“Come in,” Devin said.
Galen opened the door and saw Devin sitting at his desk.
His boss was holding a cigarette. His eyes, usually half-smiling, were now filled with complete coldness.
Devin’s cold stare was thrown in Galen’s direction. “What’s up?”
Galen finally drummed up enough bravery and placed the document on Devin’s desk. “Here is the investigation report of the night five years ago.” Galen had put forth a lot of effort to complete the investigation of the night. He was shocked when he read the report. It was hard to expect such a big secret to be behind what happened.
Devin looked at the document and chuckled. “Burn it.”
Gordon and Ashlyn were to remarry. The report was of no use to him now. Galen could empathize with the depth of Devin’s frustration. “You will be in a better mood if you read it,” he said.
The report was about Gordon’s big secret.
It was difficult to tell if Ashlyn would still remarry Gordon if she found out such a secret. Devin loosened his tie and reached his hand out. Slowly, he picked up the report.
He intermittently took a puff of the cigarette that he held in his other hand. His handsome face expressed his noble character well. Galen was confused as to why Ashlyn wasn’t in love with Devin
From what he could see, Devin was a man in a million.
‘As soon as Ashlyn came out of the meeting room, she received a call from Gordon.
She didn’t want to answer, but considering that her plan was close to succeeding, she pressed the answer key. “This is Ashlyn.”
“Grandpa says that the wedding date is set for the 16th of next month.” “Okay,” Ashlyn said, unaffected. “Anything else?”
Gordon could tell that she was impatient.
He frowned. “No.”
“Okay, I’m hanging up,” Ashlyn said, not wanting to talk to him anymore. “Wait, are you angry?” Gordon asked.
“What makes you think so?” Ashlyn shot back
“I didn’t mean anything last night.”
“What did you do last night?”
What had he done?
Nothing.
Gordon was rendered speechless, and before long, Ashlyn ended the call. The beeping of a busy tone reached his ears. It had barely died down when his phone rang again.
Gordon thought Ashlyn was calling him but he frowned when he saw the caller ID. “What?” he barked into the phone.
Aiken was calling him and the reason was obvious. “Did Ashlyn really agree to marry you again?”
“Don’t you have anything else to do?” Gordon said, displeased with the question. Aiken was surprised that Ashlyn indeed agreed. “Why does she want to remarry you? Is she playing tricks on you? Did you ask her about it? Does she mean it?”
Gordon felt overwhelmed by Aiken’s questions. “Why can’t she remarry me?” he demanded.
“Things were ugly between you. How come she agreed to remarry you? No normal person would do that.”
“Do you mean to say that Ashlyn is not normal?”
Aiken sensed Gordon’s displeasure from his voice and smartly corrected himself, “Well, not like that. Maybe she truly loves you.”
Ashlyn’s action might give out the message that she truly loved Gordon. But honestly, her love was cheap.
But Gordon was his friend, and Aiken was happy for him.
Gordon ended the call, not in a mood to hear more from Aiken,
He gazed at his phone for a long time, Aiken’s words ringing in his ears. They didn’t understand that Ashlyn loved him deeply.
She had loved him for eleven years. If this was not love, then what was? Ashlyn packed up her things and left the company.
Her car had been smashed last night and sent for repairs.
It was not until Ashlyn got out of the elevator that she found it was raining.
It was six in the evening and quickly getting dark
Ashlyn stood at the door for a while, no umbrella and no car, before she
The redness in the beautiful eyes was gone. As Devin walked up to her, his usual smile playing on his lips, Ashlyn yet again saw herself in his eyes.
Her heart picked up pace when Devin took her hand.
He seemed to check her temperature before quickly retracting his hand. “It’s a little cold.”
Everything went on as usual, as if nothing had happened between them. Ashlyn, however, didn’t know how to face him.
