As soon as Ashlyn left, Nathaniel took out his phone and called Gordon. He knew it! Ashlyn was still in love with Gordon even a year after they divorced.
Ashlyn’s words from last night had hit Gordon hard. As soon as he went back to his apartment, he threw her old phone into the storage cabinet in the study, determined to ignore anything related to her.
Just then, his phone started to ring, Gordon frowned as soon as he saw the caller ID.
It was none other than Nathaniel, and Gordon knew why his grandfather was calling him. The latter probably was going to ask him to go home for dinner and force him to remarry Ashlyn.
Both of these were things Gordon didn’t want to do.
Gordon stared at the vibrating phone on the table without the slightest intention of answering it
The phone vibrated for about a minute before it finally went silent.
However, a few seconds later, it started vibrating again.
It was still Nathaniel
Gordon pursed his lips and impatiently loosened his tie. A few seconds later, he picked up the phone and pressed the answer key. “Grandpa?” “Gordon, I have great news!”
Nathaniel’s tone was filled with joy, which made Gordon worried.Anything that made Nathaniel happy would likely make Gordon unhappy.
“What is it?”
“I had lunch with Ashlyn today and we talked about her remarriage with you. I asked her to hold a wedding banquet with you first and then get the marriage certificate after. Guess what she said?”
Gordon’s hand stiffened. Nathaniel had always wanted Gordon to remarry Ashlyn. If she had refused him, the old man would be far from happy.
It meant that Ashlyn must’ve agreed!
Gordon’s heart started to race.
“Did she say yes?”
“Not exactly, but she said she’d think about it. | think she’ll agree eventually. I told you women are always soft-hearted. Did you confess your love to her yet? If you were more proactive, you might even have a baby! Anyway, Ashlyn might reach out to you soon. Get ready and ask the PR department to make a statement about what happened. And I think I need to start talking to your mom about the wedding. Your wedding this time should be grander.”
“Okay, Grandpa.”
After putting the phone down, Gordon was in a daze. He thought about what Nathaniel had said just now, wondering if he was dreaming.Did Ashlyn really agree to remarry him?
Ashlyn had turned him down, What made her change her mind? Was it really because Gordon confessed his love to her last night?Gordon couldn’t figure it out, For the first time, he thought Aiken might’ve been right. Women were the most unpredictable creatures on earth indeed.
Ashlyn’s talk with Nathaniel lasted under an hour.
She managed to make it back to Fairway Group before the lunch break ended.
As soon as Ashlyn put down her bag to take a quick nap on her sofa, there was a knock on the door.
Ashlyn raised her eyebrows and said, “Come in”
Talia pushed the door open with a document in her hand. “Miss Ramos.”
“What’s wrong?”
Ashlyn sat up and reached for her glass of water.
“Miss Ramos, here’s the thing. I’ve found out something else about Betsy.”
Talia handed the document to Ashlyn.
Ashlyn put down her glass and took the document from Talia. Shequickly skimmed through it.
After a while, she suddenly chuckled. “So that’s why.”
No wonder Talia couldn’t find out anything about Betsy at first. It tuned out that Gordon had his people clean up the mess behindthe whole thing.
Not only that, but Gordon’s people had also been monitoring Talia’speople for months
A few days ago, Ashlyn had asked Talia to stop investigating Betsy,so Gordon’s people probably thought that Talia had dropped the investigation. They didn’t expect that she’d investigate it again. So much had happened over the past few months. Ashlyn hated the Jones family with every fiber of her being, but she had never thought that her troubles would have something to do with Gordon.
In her eyes, Gordon would never do such a despicable thing.
But Ashlyn had always been wrong about her ex-husband.
At first, Ashlyn hesitated if she should agree to the wedding, Shewas worried that she might go too far. But now, she knew that she didn’t need to hesitate anymore.
“Thank you for this, Talia.”
After a pause, Ashlyn added, “Have you found anything on Raina?””Yes. We have evidence that she and her sister paid the rumormongers.” Talia also wanted to get to the bottom of this matter as soon as possible, but Raina and Arabella had acted more cleverly this time around. They even used an anonymous account. So it had taken Talia’s people some time and effort to figure out how the transaction went down.
Ashlyn nodded and continued to leaf through the document inher hand. Smiling faintly, she said, “Talia, the Jones family willissue a statement about my remarriage with Gordon in a few days. You don’t need to respond to it.”
Talia was a little confused, but she trusted that Ashlyn must’vehad her reasons, so she didn’t question her. “Got it, Miss Ramos.”“Thanks, Talia. You’ve been working really hard lately. When thedust settles, I’ll give you a long holiday.”
“Thank you, Miss Ramos.”
Talia didn’t refuse. Indeed, she needed a long vacation to deal with some personal stuff.
Seeing that Ashlyn was done talking to her, Talia sensibly turned around and left.
After rereading the document, Ashlyn couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Gordon Jones was such a shameless man!
Well, it was time to give the Joness a taste of their own medicine.
After the divorce, Ashlyn had blocked Gordon’s number. Never in her wildest dreams would she have thought that she would call him again one day.
But in the end, she knew she would block him again once all of this was over.
It didn’t take long before Gordon answered the phone. “Ashlyn? What’s wrong?”
Ashlyn brushed off his concern with a light chuckle and said, “I didn’t know you still kept my phone number.”
