He thought Stevie was so shameless.
Didn’t Stevie now what people in the business circle were saying about Ashlyn?
They all said that she was nothing but a shameless woman Ashlyn divorced Gordon so decisively before, but now she threatened Gordon to remarry her with his child.
Ashlyn had gotten on the public’s bad side, yet Stevie still saidthat she could do whatever she liked.
Nathaniel wondered what kind of father Stevie was.
Nathaniel was pissed off. The day had just begun and already hefelt suffocated thanks to Stevie’s words.
He was so angry that he lifted his hand and overturned the checker board aside
Seeing this, Carl didn’t dare to say anything. Carl had already guessed what would happen. Nathaniel, a hateful old man, had grown used to scheming against people. He thought Stevie was the same and thought that the Ramos family would care about reputation and interests above all else
But what Nathaniel didn’t know was that Stevie only cared abou this daughter, Ashlyn. With so many bad things happening, Stevie was no fool. He likely doubted it was all just one big coincidence. Moreover, in the past few months, Nathaniel had been very keen to propose a remarriage between Ashlyn and Gordon. It was a strategic marriage, which would’ve benefitted both families involved. However, the Ramos family felt that they didn’t need anything the Jones family could offer. Because of this, the Ramos family could see things straight.
Of course, Carl didn’t dare to say this to Nathaniel,
Although he had worked for Nathaniel for more than twenty years,Nathaniel rarely ever took other people’s advice, just like now. Therefore, Carl did his job in silence. All he had to do was protect Nathaniel from getting hurt.
After venting his anger for a while, Nathaniel calmed down and said, “If I can’t convince Stevie, Il talk to Ashlyn!”
Carl’s expression faltered. “What if Gordon finds out?”
Nathaniel didn’t want to hear it, He shot Carl a cold glance and said, ungrateful to his own family? As long as he’s still a Jones, he has to marry Ashlyn! He doesn’t lift a finger to win her over, yet help him. What else can he say about me?”
Nathaniel had always been an impulsive man, but as he grew older, he acted even more rashly.
Carl pursed his lips hesitantly. “You’re right, sir.”
Having been met with acquiescence, Nathaniel calmed down a little.“Well? What’re you waiting for? Go and prepare the car!”
“Yes, sit.”
Without saying anything more, Garl turned around and headed downstairs to ask the driver to ready the car.
Truth be told, he wanted to warn Nathaniel that Ashlyn might not want to see him,
But judging from Nathaniel’s behavior just now, Carl figured that if he said one more word, he’d be kicked out of the Jones family. So he decided to stay silent.
It was better to let Nathaniel be turned down than to risk losing his job.
The wrap-up meeting was about to begin when Talia came in and informed Ashlyn that Nathaniel had come to see her.Ashlyn tapped on her desk with a pen idly. “He’s here? Outside?”Talia nodded. “I couldn’t stop him.”
A mischievous smile tugged at the corners of Ashlyn’s lips. “Tell him that I’m in a video conference and make him wait for twohours.”
Talia was stunned for a moment before realizing that Ashlyn wasmaking him wait on purpose. She smiled and replied, “Got it.”“Alright. Go ahead.” Ashlyn smiled, too
Nathaniel had done so many disgusting things to her. Making himwait for two hours was nothing.
Besides, Ashlyn knew why he had come here today.
After all, half an hour ago, Vivien had sent her a recording of thecall between Nathaniel and Stevie.
What she heard on the recording confirmed just how shameless and despicable Nathaniel was.
How could he still think she would agree to marry into his family? It was simply ridiculous.
After leaving Ashlyn’s office, Talia went to the reception room with a polite smile. Nathaniel and his secretary were waiting there.Seeing Talia come in, Carl asked, “Is Miss Ramos free?”
Talia maintained her polite smile and said, “I’m sorry, but she is in the middle of a conference call right now, which will last around two hours.”Then, she turned to Nathaniel and added, “Miss Ramos asked me to tell you that she might too busy today. She’ll visit you herself when she has the time.”
But Nathaniel knew that Ashlyn would never have the time to visit him.
Nathaniel didn’t know whether Ashlyn was avoiding him on purpose or not, but he did know that she would never come to him voluntarily.
The matter of her marriage to Gordon was urgent.
Nathaniel was not stupid. He knew that once the Ramos family figured out he was behind what had happened the past few days, the marriage would be off the table for good. The two families would also having a falling-out.
Nathaniel needed Gordon and Ashlyn to remarry before the Ramos family could react.
If Ashlyn and Gordon remarried, it wouldn’t matter if the Ramos family figured it out. They wouldn’t ask her to divorce Gordon again, would they?
Nathaniel pursed his lips unhappily, not knowing when on earth Ashlyn would be willing to see him.
After all, the last time he sent Carl to summon her, Ashlyn refused. After giving it some thought, Nathaniel locked eyes with Talia and said, “I understand she is busy. I’m sorry if I’m bothering her, but I do have a lot of time on my hands. Tell her that I will wait for her until lunch time.” Talia nodded. “Okay, Mr. Jones.”Then she went out and asked someone to bring their guests coffee, desserts, and fruits inside.
Sometimes, making things difficult for others couldn’t be tooobvious, so that the other party wouldn’t have reason to venttheir anger.
After giving her assistant instructions, Talia knocked on the doorto Ashlyn’s office and relayed everything to Ashlyn.
Ashlyn snorted. “If he wants to wait, then let him.”
Anyway, she was in no rush. He was the one who was anxious. She was making things difficult for Nathaniel.
The thought pleased her a little bit.
Ashlyn wasn’t joking when she said that she would make Nathaniel wait for two whole hours.
Nathaniel was getting old. His body wasn’t what it used to be. After waiting in the meeting room for over an hour, his joints started to ache.
Coffee, sweets, and fruits were served, so he couldn’t complain.Every half-hour, Ashlyn’s secretary would come in to apologize toNathaniel, making it hard for him to lose his temper.
Just now, Talia came again to say that Ashlyn’s meeting hadextended ten minutes and that she would likely be able toentertain him at around twelve-forty.
Nathaniel’s face turned blue as soon as he heard this. When Talialeft, he glanced at Carl and hissed, “Do you think Ashlyn’s doingthis on purpose?”
After some slight hesitation, Carl answered, “I don’t think shewould do such a thing,”
When Ashlyn was still with the Jones family, Nathaniel had beencruel to her, but she still treated him with respect.
Thinking about this, Nathaniel nodded in agreement. “Ashlyn’s astrong-willed girl, but she did respect me when she still livedwith us.”
“Exactly.”
But who would’ve thought that she was Stevie’s daughter?
Nathaniel sighed helplessly. “Well, we’ve been waiting for one and a half hours. Another ten minutes shouldn’t matter.”
“| agree.” After a while, Carl proposed, “Mr. Jones, would you like me to massage your joints?”
He knew that it must’ve been hard on Nathaniel to sit and wait for such a long time.
Nathaniel nodded wearily. “Sure.”
