It was not important to Stevie to have his score settled withNathaniel right away. He had to let Ashlyn know she was beingtrapped by the Jones family.
Ashlyn woke up from her nap as Stevie called her. She was surprised to see his number and quickly answered. “Dad?*”Ashlyn! I’m sorry. Did I wake you up?”
Ashlyn’s groggy voice informed Stevie that she had been asleep.
He knew Ashlyn had just returned home from abroad and she must be tired after everything that happened that morning.Stevie felt a deep sense of empathy towards Ashlyn and was blinded by anger over what Nathaniel had done. He was not goingto stand idly by this time
Ashlyn was still rubbing the grogginess from her eyes. “I’m up.What’s wrong, Dad?”
Ashlyn was well rested since she had slept through the entire afternoon. The sun had gone down by the time she woke up and she switched on the light. Her eyes narrowed against the brightbeams.
Stevie warned her about Nathaniel. “Ashlyn, I want you to be extremely careful with Nathaniel. He is a crafty old fox. He has pulled this latest stunt to force you into getting married into theJones family.”
Ashlyn froze when she learned how much Stevie knew. “How did you find out, Dad?”
Stevie was also shocked Ashlyn already knew everything that just happened. “You knew about it already, Ashlyn?”
Ashlyn had not told her parents about the situation involving Betsy and decided she didn’t want to at this point either. “Yes.Talia found out some things in her report.”
Ashlyn smiled. “Dad, could you let me handle it please? I know what to do.”
Stevie had faith in his daughter, but he still worried about her.
Please be careful dealing with Nathaniel. He’s sneaky!” “Don’t worry, Dad. I know about Nathaniel.”
They knew what Nathaniel had done, but the old man didn’t know that he was exposed.
Ashlyn was going to teach Nathaniel a hard lesson this time.
No matter what, she would make sure Nathaniel was sorry for what he had done.
Ashlyn checked her messages after she hung up the phone. She found Jessie had sent her a bunch of messages.

Aiken frowned when he heard this news. His frown deepened ashe remembered what Gordon had said that morning. Once his meeting was over, he drove to Crowbar Technologies to see Gordon.Gordon had gone to talk to Nathaniel at noon. He had thought thatthings would come to an end, but it didn’t look like Nathaniel wasgoing to give up anytime soon.
Gordon looked at the news headlines. “Ashlyn Ramos is carrying Gordon Jones’s baby!” His face darkened.
‘Aiken had picked the wrong time to see Gordon. Gordon’s eyes glittered coldly as he turned them on Aiken. “I’m in a bad moodright now. You’d better not provoke me.”
Aiken brushed his words off with a light chuckle. “Come on, Gordon!Am I still your friend? The baby is yours. How could you tell meit’s not? Wait! Do you want to deny it after getting Ashlynpregnant?”
Aiken made his way to Gordon’s desk and sat down in the chair infront of it
He noticed that Gordon’s expression was stormy, a frightening sight to behold.
Aiken sat there, stunned for a moment before he said haltingly,
“It’s a piece of good news, isn’t it? Why do you look so angry?” Gordon looked up at Aiken, his eyes devoid of emotion. His gaze scared Aiken out of continuing with that topic. “Easy! Easy! Don’tget angry! There’s so much fake news on the Internet. I just got curious. I just remembered I have an appointment, so I won’t disturb you anymore. Bye!”
Aiken stood up and hurried out of the room.
The door slammed shut, leaving Gordon behind, staring at it.
Gordon stared at it for a long time before he took out a cigar from a drawer and lit it up.
It was dark outside, but there was no light in the office, except for the foot of the cigar
Lowell was surprised as he pushed the door open and found the office drenched in darkness. Thinking that Gordon had left, he made to turn on the light.
As the light lit up the office, Lowell was taken aback to find Gordon in his chair, his head bowed down. Even the air around Gordon was cold.
Lowell’s hand trembled. “Mr. Jones, I’m sorry. I thought you had left.”
At Lowell’s words, Gordon looked up but didn’t say anything. He then collected his car keys and phone from the table, got to hisfeet, and left the office.
It was not even eight o’clock, which was why there were many empty parking spaces below Ashlyn’s apartment. Gordon brought the car to a halt but didn’t get out immediately. He rolled down the window and tuned to look out of it.
A blue sports car rolled to a stop beside his car and Ashlyn’s best friend, Jessie, got out of it.
Gordon had investigated Jessie before. Both Jessie and Ashlyn were from rich families. They had known each other for more than twenty years and were like sisters to each other.
Jessie went into Ashlyn’s apartment without noticing that Gordon’s car was parked next to hers
Gordon withdrew his gaze and looked down at his phone, which‘was vibrating with an incoming call. He didn’t answer it.
As he saw Nathaniel was calling, Gordon could guess what he wantedto say without even answering the call
Nathaniel must have thought Ashlyn a fool, which was why he wasso confident that she would remarry Gordon.
It was all so funny.
Maybe Ashlyn had known what Nathaniel had done.
Ashlyn slept the afternoon away. When she woke up, she found herself with a bad appetite. She ended up making some oat meal for herself.
She had just finished eating when the doorbell rang,
Ashlyn put the tableware into the dishwasher and set it up. She wiped her hands with a tissue and went to open the door.
She smiled at the sight of Jessie and asked, “What are you doing here?”
”m pissed off at those idiots on the Internet!”
Jessie was furious. She had thought that the rumor about Ashlyn’spregnancy had been the last, but she hadn’t expected that in justa few hours, people would start the rumor that Ashlyn waspregnant with Gordon’s kid.
‘What was worse was that many of them believed it.
Once the news went viral, dozens of people began asking Jessie if the news was true, She explained to every single one of them,ut there were still people who didn’t believe her. She lost hertemper and blacklisted everyone who didn’t believe her.
Ashlyn poured her a glass of water and said, “Why are you so angry? You and I know it’s not true!”
Jessie had come after dinner and was thirsty. She picked up the glass and downed half the water in one gulp,
Having quenched her thirst, Jessie continued, “This is the most annoying thing. It’s obviously a rumor, but they are making it sound real. You don’t know that many people have been askingme if the rumor is true or not. They’re asking me if you’re going to remarry that jerk, Gordon. I’m burning with anger!”
Ashlyn’s eyebrows shot up as she put a bowl of freshly washed strawberries before Jessie. “Since you’re saying that they areidiots, why are you so angry with them?”
