Chapter 162 – Twisted Fate of a Billionaire’s Daughter Undercover

“You’re such a gossip!” Gordon said and hung up.

However, he couldn’t stop thinking about it. Was Ashlyn pregnant?

Even if she was, he was pretty sure that he wasn’t the father.

He was also a hundred percent certain that Devin wasn’t the father. He couldn’t be!

If Ashlyn wanted to be with Devin, she would have made it happen a long time ago. She wouldn’t have waited to be with him now.

Gordon had no reason to be so confident of this fact, but he was sure of it.

Ashlyn couldn’t have gotten pregnant. It only meant one thing, the rumor had no truth to it.

Now he just had to find out who made up something like this. As he thought about it, only one name came to his mind.

Gordon was always ready for whatever came his way, but this was the first time he didn’t want to face what he believed to be the truth. But he had no choice. He had to come to terms with the fact that Nathaniel could do anything as long as it benefitted him.

Gordon took a deep breath and ran his fingers through his hair in frustration.

Lowell had to knock on Gordon’s door to remind him that someone from Moore Company was coming in half an hour.

But with the rumor of Ashlyn’s pregnancy all over the Internet, Lowell hesitated.

He stayed outside, thinking of what he was going to say, but before he could come up with something, Gordon opened the door from inside.

Lowell was startled, but after seeing how terrible Gordon looked, he sobered up. “Mr. Jones…”

“I’m going back home,” Gordon said before Lowell could finish his words.

“But Mr. Bradly from Moore Company will be here in half an hour to…”

Once again, Lowell didn’t get the chance to finish as Gordon walked past him and went into the elevator. Lowell wanted to follow him, but the look on Gordon’s face made him to step back.

Lowell gulped and watched as the elevator doors closed.

Even if he had gotten into that elevator, he knew that he wouldn’t have been able to stop Gordon.

Carl was telling Nathaniel about the comments on the Internet concerning the rumor they had started. Just as Nathaniel had expected, everyone was surprised that Ashlyn had gotten pregnant out of wedlock, and people were anxious to know who the father was.

Nathaniel was very satisfied with the outcome. It turned out that Raina and her sister had done their job well.

“It looks like things will finally go my way,” Nathaniel said as he stood at the windows and admired the blue sky.

“It surely will, sir,” Carl echoed.

Suddenly, they heard the sound of tires squealing and the engine turning off abruptly.

“Who’s that?” Nathaniel raised an eyebrow.

Carl walked to the balcony and saw Gordon getting out of the car. With a slight frown, he turned back to Nathaniel and said, “It’s Gordon.”

The smile on Nathaniel’s face immediately faded.

He knew that fooling his grandson would not be as easy as fooling Raina and Arabella.

There was no way he could hide the truth from Gordon.

But come to think of it, he had done nothing wrong.

So there was nothing Gordon could say or do.

All he did was give Raina and Arabella a sum of money and ask them to leave the city.

There was nothing wrong with that.

Gordon walked straight to the study on the third floor. He passedquickly by Jenifer on the second floor. She wanted to ask aboutAshlyn’s pregnancy rumor, but only had time to say his namebefore he walked away.

Nathaniel knew Gordon would come by and asked Carl to wait at theopen door for him. As soon as Gordon appeared, Carl closed thedoor for the two of them.

In the study, Nathaniel was sitting on the sofa. He looked at Gordonand asked, “You’re back early today. Don’t you have a lot of workat the company? Please sit.”

Nathaniel did not mention the pregnancy rumor about Ashlyn. Helooked up at Gordon. “What? You want to talk to me from thatcondescending position?”

Gordon frowned slightly. After a while, he sat down across fromNathaniel. “No. I have been busy at the company. Grandpa, pleasedon’t cause me any more trouble.”

“What do you mean, Gordon?”

Nathaniel’s face became cold when Gordon had spoken about himcausing more trouble.

Expressionless, Gordon continued, “You know exactly what I mean,Ashlyn’s assistant is still investigating the drug accident and nowyou’ve done this. Do you think she will want to marry me afterwhat you’ve done?”

Nathaniel snorted with anger and threw the book he was holding to the table. “How can you blame me for something on the Internetwithout evidence? Do you still consider me your grandfather,Gordon?”

Gordon didn’t bother to answer Nathaniel’s questions. He had been hisgrandson for three decades, so he was more than acquaintedwith the old man’s character.

Gordon’s silence made Nathaniel’s face contort with rage.

For thirty seconds, they just stared at one another. Finally,Nathaniel closed his eyes and softened his tone. “Gordon, I knowwhat is on your mind. I do want you and Ashlyn to remarry. Iknow you both are in love even though there are somemisunderstandings. Nothing but good will come to the Jonesfamily if you remarry Ashlyn. I’m not responsible for the rumorthis time! I visited Ashlyn’s parents not long ago.

Stevie saidthings in his own way and I understood him. They aren’t goingto get involved in Ashlyn’s choice. If you can get Ashlyn back, thenall the problems and concerns between our families will vanish.I’m already eighty-four. I don’t know how many more years Ihave left to live. Your brother died young. Arabella was unable togive your brother a baby. When I am gone, you will be in controlof the company. You are the only heir in the Jones family. Inthe future, your children will not have to compete for familyholdings. You should at least do something for your futurechildren!”

Despite his words, Nathaniel only wanted Ashlyn to remarry hisgrandson because of the wealth and power of the Ramos family.

Ashlyn’s father had received a lot of help from Vivien’s family, the Palmers, even though it seemed like Stevie had built his empireon his own,

The Ramos family had become so powerful due to the influenceand assistance of the Palmer family.

Nathaniel hatched such plans for the Jones family and for hisgrandsons as well. He wanted Amor to enter politics and Gordon todo business. His plans had not gone the way he’d hoped.

Amor died young, and Gordon had divorced Ashlyn.

Nathaniel could care less about Ashlyn. He only wanted the influenceof the Ramos family and Palmer family she was so closely aligned with.
