Chapter 11 – Back Home to Marry Off Myself Novel

Loredana, walking out of the tower, was elated. For the first time in a long time, she felt hope for her future. Her life was finally looking up.

She took a cab from the WY Group to the house of the Flores family.

The ride wasn’t long and soon the cab stopped in front of the Flores family. Loredana paid the driver and got out of the car. She walked in with light and steady paces.

In the living room, Beulah, who was wearing a silk nightgown that showed off her alluring figure, was sitting on the sofa.

When Beulah saw Loredana, she raised her delicate eyebrows, “Why, if it isn’t Loredana.”

Loredana gazed at Beulah’s wrist and saw she was wearing a jade bracelet and frowned. Loredana had seen it in her mother’s jewelry box when she was a child. Her mother said that her grandmother gave the bracelet to her.

But it had been given to Beulah instead.

Loredana contained herself. “I’m here to see Garrett Flores.”

Beulah fiddled with her exquisitely manicured nails without looking up at Loredana. “I’m sure your life after marrying a cripple is not smooth, right?”

“It’s none of your business.” Loredana mumbled and asked again, “Is Garrett here?”

Beulah raised her eyes and looked at Loredana to size up her. “You look like a deflated eggplant; I think the cripple of the Mendelsohn family doesn’t like you either, right?”

Loredana couldn’t help but sneer. At that moment, she sincerely thanked Cormac purposely for pretending to be paralyzed so that she could have the chance to come back.

If Beulah knew Cormac wasn’t crippled, would she regret not letting her daughter marry him?

As a man, Cormac was indeed handsome, capable, and wealthy. He was a man whom many women craved for.

Since Garrett didn’t seem to be home, Loredana didn’t want to waste time with Beulah.

She turned to leave, but when she reached the door, a car turned on the drive and stopped at the door.

Loredana knew the car all too well. It was Garrett’s.

The driver opened the door of the car and Garrett climbed out. Seeing Loredana standing in the doorway, Garrett realized she might ask for Maxina’s dowry. His face darkened. Without waiting for her to speak, he cut her off. “If you want to get your mother’s dowry, you have to do one thing for me.”

Loredana frowned. “You said that as long as I marry Cormac Mendelsohn, you’d return everything that belongs to us!”

Garrett snorted coldly. “Why did I want you to marry into the Mendelsohn family? Because it will help the

Flores family in social standing and especially in business!”

Loredana was so angry her blood boiled, and her body trembled, “How can you not keep your words, are you even a man?”

“You’re far too trusting and stupid!” Garrett made a distasteful face. “I’m your father. Is this really the way you want to speak with me?”

Loredana was enormously disheartened and crestfallen. He had gone back on his word.

“If you want your mother’s dowry, tell Cormac to give me the development rights of Repulse Bay, then

I’ll give it to you.”

Without saying another word, Garrett walked past Loredana and went into the courtyard.

When he was a few steps away from Loredana, he stopped again. “That land is very important to me. As long as you successfully convince Cormac to give the development rights to me, I’ll return everything your mother brought during our marriage, including the piano your mother gave you as a birthday present.”

Loredana never thought Garrett could be so shameless! He went back on his words over and over again. Loredana did not trust him anymore.

If she wanted to get those things back, she could only think of another way.

Loredana narrowed her eyes. The land Garrett wanted was in Cormac’s hands…

If she wanted to use Garrett weakness, it seemed she still had to put effort into her ‘newlywed husband’.

But how could she do it? Although the two of them were legally husband and wife, their relationship was more like strangers or even worse than that.

Loredana still hadn’t managed to come up with a solution after returning to her residence. Instead, she received a call, and they informed her she wasn’t qualified.

“Didn’t you say when I left I could start working tomorrow?” Loredana asked anxiously.

“I’m sorry, we can’t hire you. You don’t meet our requirements.”

Without another word, the person hung up the phone immediately.

Loredana stared at her phone. She lost her presence of mind for quite a while.

Back then, she was sure he was satisfied with her. Loredana knitted her eyebrows and speculated: Did he find someone more suitable for him?

At such a thought, Loredana felt that the circumstances were somehow more acceptable.

At night.

The moment Cormac came home, he immediately shut himself in his room. It seemed that he still had work to attend to.

Loredana had learnt about Cormac’s preferences on food from Coral in the afternoon, and she was ready to prepare dinner for him by herself.

Coral smiled, “This is what a wife should do for her husband.”

Loredana strained a smile while lowering her head. If it was not for the fact that she was at his mercy, she wouldn’t flatter him on her own volition.

Coral let out a sigh, “The madam has passed away a long time ago and the master has remarried ever since. The young master rarely goes back home, but beneath his cold facade, he is actually someone how treasures relationship with others.”

Loredana listened to her intently without interrupting her.

“Ms. White used to save the young master when he was still a child, and later on, she has been following him around. The young master has never liked her, but somehow his attitude towards her takes a turn for the better after that business trip last time. Nevertheless, you have nothing to worry about. You are still his wife anyway.” Coral patted her shoulders as she tried to comfort her.

Loredana strained a smile as she knew well she had no say in who he wanted to be acquainted with. It was his own life after all.

Even though they were husband and wife in name, it somehow never felt like that. They were more like strangers.

She knew very well the real meaning of their marriage.

Loredana sneaked a glance at the study room and recalled the black coffee that Helen had made in the morning. She asked Coral, “Coral, do you know where the coffee beans are? I want to boil him some coffee.”

Coral thought that Loredana was very thoughtful, so she dished out the coffee beans and handed them to her while also putting in some words of advice, “Don’t add any sugar or milk. The young master is not fond of sweet things.”

Loredana nodded and in no time, a freshly-brewed coffee was born. She poured some into a delicate coffee cup and carried it to the study room herself.
