Chapter 10 – Twisted Fate of a Billionaire’s Daughter Undercover

Choosing to marry Ashlyn was a decision out of sheer convenience. He needed a wife at the time, and Ashlyn just so happened to be there.

But after three years of marriage, did he really not develop any feelings for her?

Thinking of the gentleman standing next to Ashlyn earlier, Gordon felt a little irked.

He pulled over, rolled down the window, and lit a cigarette, resting one elbow on the window sill.

His face was as cold as the dark night sky. As he exhaled, smoke swirled in the air.

They had divorced. It was none of his business whether Ashlyn had a new boyfriend or not.

Why should he care?

Gordon threw the cigarette out the window and started the car again.

Having drunk a little the previous night, Ashlyn had a designated driver take her back home.

Early the following morning, Jessie called before the alarm clock rang.

“What’s up?” Ashlyn asked groggily.

It wasn’t even eight o’clock yet. How did Jessie always have so much energy?

“Ashlyn! You’re trending! The video of our impromptu concert was posted online. Now the Internet is raving about you! You’re an idol! Many people are begging you to make a debut! You’re so talented, and now others finally know that!”

As Jessie gushed, Ashlyn got out of bed and walked to the windows to open the curtains. Frowning slightly, she asked dubiously,

“Finally? What do you mean by finally?”

Jessie fell silent for a second. “Oh, sorry. I forgot that you were already a hit before.”

Although Ashlyn’s words sounded a little narcissistic, she had every right. When she was a freshman, she had trended on the Internet because of a photo. At the time, many scouts who searched for potential talents had tried to get to her, but she never gave anyone the light of day.

Now, years later, Ashlyn was an Internet sensation once more. So the word “finally” was indeed not appropriate.

“I’ve got to keep a low profile.”

Smiling wryly, Ashlyn headed to the bathroom to freshen up.

Jessie snorted. “Keep a low profile? The Jones family had the audacity to bully you because you were too low-key!”

Ashlyn was the pampered daughter of the head of the wealthy Ramos family, but she insisted on pretending to be an ordinary person when she married into the Jones family. Naturally, she was treated like an ordinary person—which wasn’t a good thing.

Hearing this, Ashlyn paused for a moment as she squeezed out some toothpaste. “Oh, forget it. I’m going to wash up first. Did you forget that I’m a manager worth tens of millions of dollars?”

“Of course not, ma’am! I won’t stop you from raking in the big bucks. Goodbye for now, Miss Ramos!”

“Bye, Jessie.”

After hanging up, Ashlyn proceeded to brush her teeth.

As she looked at herself in the mirror, she was somewhat absent-minded.

Actually, she had never truly intended to conceal her identity when she married into the Jones family. What happened that night was so sudden and had taken her by surprise. After that, when Gordon proposed, she knew that he was only doing it out of guilt.

After they got married, she tried to tell Gordon about her family background on more than one occasion. However, every time she brought it up, he would shrug her off and busy himself with work.

Later, she happened to overhear Denise complaining to Jenifer that she didn’t deserve Gordon because she was from a poor family. Then, at Denise’s birthday party, Ashlyn was mocked by Denise’s friends for being poor. Suddenly, for some inexplicable reason, Ashlyn didn’t want to tell Gordon the truth anymore.

She wanted to see if Gordon really didn’t care.

Time passed and she realized that he really didn’t give a damn about her, let alone her family.

He didn’t care about anything related to her.

How ridiculous!

The electric toothbrush in Ashlyn’s hand suddenly died. When she came to her senses, she briskly rinsed her mouth and washed her face.

She made herself breakfast in the kitchen, filling the air with the odor of food.

Who would’ve thought that the pampered lady would’ve become a capable cook after marrying Gordon?

But Ashlyn didn’t think it was a bad thing. After all, she enjoyed her cooking.

Ashlyn finished the last of her food and sighed in satisfaction. It was the perfect breakfast on a cold day like this.

However, Denise wasn’t as bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.

Ashlyn, who had disappeared for months, showed up again out of the blue. And now, she was an online celebrity, too.

“What is wrong with this world? How could a bitch like Ashlyn become an Internet idol overnight?”

Thinking about how depressed she had been over the past few months because of Ashlyn, Denise gritted her teeth and made a phone call.

“Idol? I want to see if people will still think that Ashlyn is an idol later!”

Ashlyn had an early meeting that day, and it ran long. It was already eleven o’clock when the meeting ended.

Ashlyn was appointed as the second-in-command of Fairway Group by the headquarters. Her position was right after the CEO.

Not long after she showed up, the employees had come up with thirteen versions of her story.

The most convincing one was that Ashlyn was the mistress of a senior executive. Nobody could find out what she had done in the four years after her graduation. Because this part of her background was completely blank, they reasoned that she had to be a mistress.

Although Ashlyn wanted to take over the family business, she didn’t intend to make her identity public for the time being. Only Talia, who had come to the company with her, knew her real identity.

Even the CEO of Fairway Group, Elvin Perkins, had no idea.

Elvin was by no means a stupid man. When the headquarters suddenly arranged for such a young woman to work under him, he knew that something was brewing. With his years of experience, Elvin’s first instinct was that the headquarters wanted to replace him with Ashlyn.

Ashlyn was a newcomer but held a high position in the company. Consequently, she was torn between the ordinary employees and the CEO. Elvin had asked her to join the business dinner last night to make things difficult for her.

But Ashlyn was no stranger to difficulties and was ready to face them head-on. Since she chose to work in this company without revealing her identity, she wouldn’t cry for help in her first few days here.

Hearing what Talia said, Ashlyn smiled indifferently. “I don’t care what they say.”

In her three years with the Jones family, she had heard countless unpleasant words directed at her.

Talia nodded and warned her about Elvin’s little trick. “The Haynes family already have their hands on that land. Obviously, Elvin wants to derail you.”

Ashlyn raised her eyebrows. “Keenan Haynes, right?”

“Yes.”

Ashlyn’s eyes flashed meaningfully. “Nobody knows whether this will derail me or if it’ll be another stepping stone to my success. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see!”

Elvin wanted to discourage her. Her competitor was one of Gordon’s best friends, Keenan.

Things were getting interesting.

Ashlyn would never throw in the towel the second things got difficult. Fate would decide who would win this land in the end.

Hearing this, Talia was stunned for a while. “Miss Ramos, do you have a plan in mind?”

But Ashlyn simply smiled and didn’t say anything.

Talia didn’t ask any more questions. She handed an envelope to Ashlyn and explained, “This is the invitation to Llama Group’s anniversary party.”
