Was Ashlyn out of her mind?
It seemed she was hell-bent on taking revenge.
Just as Arabella was lost in thought, the door to the ward was pushed open and a man in a perfectly tailored suit came in. His piercing eyes looked straight at her as he asked in a low voice, “Is it true?”
Arabella’s heart leaped to her throat. Discomfited under his intense gaze, she desperately tried to come up with an excuse. “Gordon, listen to me. Ashlyn found someone to…”
It was clear that Arabella still wanted to plead her case, however futile that might be. Gordon’s expression darkened and his eyes flashed angrily. “Get ready. Someone will send you abroad tomorrow.”
“What?! No! Gordon, I— I don’t want to go abroad! You know I love you!”
Arabella knew that if she was sent abroad, it meant that she’d have nothing to do with the Joness anymore.
However, her pleas fell on deaf ears. The man had already turned around and left the ward without looking back.
The scandal of Gordon falling in love with his sister-in-law was the top trending search for three days. Before, countless people had judged Ashlyn because they thought she was a shameless woman who had married into a rich family by devious means. But now, the tables had turned and they all felt pity for her.
Nathaniel ordered Gordon to find Ashlyn at all costs. However, no matter how hard Lowell tried, he couldn’t find a trace of his boss’s ex-wife.
As for Ashlyn’s Instagram account, except for the apology she posted on the day she left, all previous posts had been deleted, and she hadn’t posted anything since.
The picture she had posted with her apology was her divorce certificate. Many people were intrigued by the news about her and Gordon, and she had gained about two million followers in a matter of days.
However, it was as though Ashlyn had vanished into thin air. All her bank cards in Courtbush had been cancelled. The last clue Lowell could find was that Ashlyn had bought a ticket to Bluepond on September 20th, but it was a dead end.
Lowell had been searching Bluepond for a whole week, but he still got nothing. He had no choice but to go back to Courtbush to report his failure to Gordon. “Mr. Jones, I’m sorry but I can’t find any information on Miss Ramos.”
Gordon’s stony expression darkened and his eyes were devoid of warmth. “Are you saying that the woman I was married to for three years appeared out of nowhere and then disappeared without a trace?”
Cold sweat broke out on Lowell’s forehead. “Well, I suppose so, Mr. Jones.”
As though his assistant said a joke, Gordon burst into angry laughter. “If that’s the case, she’s dead to me now!”
After saying that, he cast a cold glance at the trembling Lowell and barked, “Get out!”
Lowell didn’t need to be told twice. He nodded, bowed slightly, and then walked out as quickly as he could.
After Lowell closed the door behind him, Gordon was left alone in his huge office.
He stood in front of the French windows for a while before he turned around and walked back to his chair. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a lovely porcelain ornament of a cat on the table. His eyes flashed and before he knew it, he had violently thrown the porcelain cat into the trash can.
Three months later
In Hill Hotel, Courtbush
As soon as Ashlyn and her secretary, Talia Murray, sat down, she heard somebody greet “Mr. Jones.”
There weren’ t many people with the surname Jones in Courtbush, so Ashlyn turned around subconsciously. As expected, the man being addressed was her ex-husband, Gordon Jones.
What a surprise!
Casey Mason, who was sitting next to Ashlyn, stood up with a flattering smile. “Mr. Jones, you’ re here! Allow me to introduce the manager of Fairway Group, Ashlyn Ramos.”
At the mention of her own name, Ashlyn raised her eyebrows. Then, she stood up and looked at the man in front of her. She stretched out her hand and smiled professionally. “Mr. Jones, ve heard a lot about you.”
Gordon looked at the woman who had disappeared three months ago now standing right in front of him. She looked like a completely different person. Her face was glowing, and her straight black hair was now curly, falling loosely around her shoulders. As she moved, her curls bounced and swayed slightly.
Ashlyn was wearing delicate make-up today and the light eyeliner accentuated her deep-set eyes perfectly, making her look bright and charming.
She looked at him with a smile. Her voice was pleasant to hear. Her overall demeanor was polite and elegant yet estranged, as though she had never net him before. It seemed the divorce had treated her well. Gordon’ s expression darkened.
He glanced at Ashlyn’ s outstretched hand, ignored he, and took his seat. The smile on Ashlyn’ s face faded and she withdrew her hand. Casey, who was beside her, changed the topic to ease the tense atmosphere. Ashlyn restrained her emotions and continued to talk with Casey happily. She didn’ t bat an eyelash at Gordon, not even once.
Casey continued to host and mentioned Gordon from time to time during the conversation. The man just sat there, looking coldly at Ashlyn who was sifting opposite to him. Even Casey could sense that there was something off with Gordon. Casey and Ashlyn exchanged a few pleasantries and the meal ended soon enough.
Instead of leaving with Casey and Gordon, Ashlyn and Talia retreated to the bathroom after the meal.
Watching as Ashlyn left without hesitation, Gordon withdrew his gaze and walked out expressionlessly.
Lowell followed behind him, holding his breath.
They had gone to great lengths in their search for Ashlyn. How did she become the manager of Fairway Group out of the blue?
She even greeted Gordon as if nothing had happened.
Lowell didn’t know that Ashlyn was so bold before.
“Miss Ramos?”
As soon as Ashlyn came out of the bathroom cubicle, Talia looked at her worriedly.
Talia was sent by Stevie to help Ashlyn. She knew all about what had happened between Ashlyn and Gordon. Naturally, she was worried about Ashlyn after bumping into Gordon today.
Ashlyn washed her hands and wiped them. Then, she raised her hand and flipped her long, wavy hair. “What’s the matter? Are you worried about me?”
Smiling at Talia, she winked and said, “You don’t have to worry about me.”
She was not that stupidly naive woman anymore.
Talia was stunned. After realizing that Ashlyn was fine, she breathed a sigh of relief and followed her out.
The driver had been waiting at the entrance of the hotel for a while now. Ashlyn had thought that Gordon would’ve left by now, so it was a surprise when she saw the man in the lounge of the hotel.
She looked around and found that Casey was gone, leaving Gordon and Lowell alone in the hall.
She figured that there was no need to say goodbye to Gordon.
Ashlyn strode across the lounge without even looking at Gordon.
However, as soon as she reached the entrance, a sharp voice sounded from behind her. “Why the hell are you here?”
