Gordon sensed the sarcasm in Ashlyn’s words, but he didn’t want to argue with her. “I did. So why’d you call?”
Ashlyn didn’t want to waste her breath with Gordon, so she went straight to the point. “Your grandfather should have informed you about our remarriage already. We can hold a wedding first. As for the marriage certificate, we can talk about that later.””Ashlyn, are you serious?”
“You don’t have to believe me if you don’t want to.”
“Why’te you doing this?”
Gordon gripped his phone tighter. He both needed and dreaded her answer.
Gordon’s question made Ashlyn laugh in spite of herself. A smile tugged at the corners of her lips as she said, “For revenge, of course.”
In Gordon’s eyes, it looked as though Ashlyn was just being stubborn She never stopped loving him. Even after their divorce, she just pretended not to love him.
Revenge?
If marrying him was an act of revenge, then he could do nothing but wait and see how things would pan out
“Okay.”
Ashlyn had no idea what Gordon was thinking about, nor did she care.
She had said what she wanted to say, and she didn’t want to prolong their conversation. “That’s all. |have to go now.”Without waiting for a response, Ashlyn hung up on him.
After putting her phone aside, Ashlyn thought for a while, stood up, and walked out of the office. She looked for Talia and said,”Book a ticket back to Blue pond tomorrow for me.”
Talia’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Miss Ramos, did something happen?”
Ashlyn shook her head and patted Talia on the shoulder. “No, Ijust miss my dad and mom.”
“all right, then.”
Hearing this, Talia hurriedly delegated the task to her assistant. Ashlyn turned around and went back to her office to pack up her things. It was time to get off work.
She was tinkering with her phone while waiting for the elevatorto reach the ground floor. Jessie asked her if she wanted to hangout, but Ashlyn refused.
When she heard the elevator doors slide open, Ashlyn quickly putaway her phone and walked out of the elevator.
There, in the lobby, was a familiar figure.
A man in a crisp suit and pointed leather shoes stood in the middle of the lobby. However, what made him stand out was the little dolphin plushie in his hand, which made him look silly.Seeing this, Ashlyn couldn’t help but burst into giggles. “Devin, did you just come from the amusement park?”
Devin tured in the direction of her voice and asked with a smile,”Is this gift okay?”
He had gone to the aquarium today on business. As soon as hesaw this plushie, he thought about Ashlyn.
After the curator of the aquarium made a cheerful introduction,Devin suddenly asked, “Can I have this plushie?”
At the time, the question took everyone aback. Only Galen Graves, who had been working for him for almost a decade now,was smart enough to know what Devin really meant. “He wants to give it to his girlfriend.”
Devin smiled at all the compliments and took the plushie happily.
This dolphin plushie was a special anniversary gift that the aquarium had designed. It was supposed to be sold on the 10thanniversary the following year, so it wasn’t on the market yet.The one in Devin’s hand was, in a way, a limited edition.
It was no secret that Ashlyn liked dolphins. When she was five,Stevie and Vivien had taken her to the aquarium. After being kissed by a dolphin, she had grown attached to the creature. There was even a room in the Ramos family’s villa dedicated to the family’s collections, including Ashlyn’s collection of dolphin-related souvenirs.
Ashlyn grinned from ear to ear. “Thanks, Devin.” »
Her smile was so infectious that Devin found himself smiling back at her. He handed her the plushie and asked, “What would you like for dinner?”
Because she had just been gifted a little dolphin, Ashlyn didn’t refuse him. “It’s a little cold today. How about hot pot?””Perfect!”
Just then, Devin’s eyes landed on Ashlyn’s free hand, but he managed to resist the urge to hold it.
It didn’t matter.
He wasn’t in a rush.
Ashlyn was tormented by menstrual cramps over the last couple of days, which made her lose her appetite. But today, her period was about to come to an end, so she was in a good mood and her appetite recovered.
It wasn’t that cold in Courtbush at the end of October, but tonight was an exception. Hot pot was indeed a good choice.Devin’s secretary had dropped him off at the Fairway Group building, so he didn’t have a car. In the end, Ashlyn had no choice but to offer to let him ride with her.
The restaurant they chose was recommended by Devin. It was located in an old street downtown. The restaurant was old and traditional, and there were small pavilions in the garden for those who preferred to eat outdoors. A piping hot bowl of so upon a cool night was especially cozy.
It was Ashlyn’s first time at this hotpot restaurant. There were many guests, but it wasn’t too noisy or chaotic. The evening breeze whipped through their hair, and the hot pot was steamy and delicious.
When the bill was delivered to them, Ashlyn stopped Devin and said, “Allow me. I owe you a lot.”
Albeit hesitant, Devin withdrew his hand and let Ashlyn pay for the meal.
When Ashlyn and Devin were walking toward the parking lot, they came across three students. “Good evening, sir and madam.
‘We’re conducting a survey now, would you be willing to fill up this form?” one of them asked politely.
“Sure.”
Ashlyn was in a good mood today, so she readily agreed to something that she wouldn’t have done on a normal day.
She took the pen and began to fill in the form.
Devin also started filling in a form himself.
The survey was quite short. Both Devin and Ashlyn finished in under a minute. They were about to leave when the girl stopped them again. “Please wait a moment. Here’s a token of our appreciation. Thank you for helping us.”
As she spoke, the girl tried to hand a pair of cute red and blue cartoon phone charms to Ashlyn.
But Ashlyn shook her head. “No, thanks.”
The girl seemed to be a little disappointed. Seeing this, Devin stepped in to explain. “You see, this lady isn’t my girlfriend. Do you have any other tokens?”
The girl smiled and looked at Ashlyn apologetically. She held outa bag in front of them and said, “Oh, sorry. Here, we have other items. You can choose whichever you like.”
Ashlyn wasn’t expecting Devin’s clarification. After all, the three students in front of them were just strangers.
