The Jones family was quick to take action. By the time Ashlyn had taken a shower, the news had been erased from the Internet.
The news had been removed, but what Ashlyn had asked for was more than just that.
She had asked them to clear her name and clarify that she wasn’t the author of the comic book.
Right now, only the news had been removed. They hadn’t finished what Ashlyn had asked them to do.
She smirked as she put the phone aside, turned off the light, and went to sleep.
If she didn’t get a satisfactory answer from the Jones family tomorrow, she would not show any mercy.
Ashlyn ended up having a good night’s sleep.
The next day, Ashlyn saw the Jones family’s reply when she came out of the meeting.
The bloggers who had started the rumors had all made public apologies. They clarified that the comic book had nothing to do with Ashlyn and that they had made up a story about her secret love for Gordon in order to attract public attention.
Of course, people had different opinions about such public apologies.
Some believed it, and some didn’t.
After all, Ashlyn was not a popular star. Why were the paparazzi targeting her?
When there was a knock on the door, Ashlyn put down her phone and said, “Come in.”
It was Talia. “Miss Ramos, your father just called.”
Ashlyn’s eyebrows shot up. “Is it about the news on the Internet?” she asked.
Talia nodded. “He asked me if the Jones family had done it.”
Ashlyn smiled. “What did you say?”
“I told him I didn’t know yet.”
“That’s it, then.”
Talia nodded, understanding what Ashlyn meant. But at the thought of the so-called clarification, she couldn’t help but say, “The online apologies and clarification don’t seem to be working.”
Ashlyn nodded and said, “I know.”
She paused before adding, “There’s no hurry. Let’s wait and watch what happens.”
If the Jones family was going to be so perfunctory, she would make them eat the bitter fruit of their own making.
Talia didn’t say anything to that. She merely nodded and left.
She had to admit that Ashlyn knew the Jones family better.
The apologies and clarification had just been a warm-up. This afternoon, they did something more.
Ashlyn didn’t know how Nathaniel had managed to make Raina and Arabella admit their mistakes. But that afternoon, Raina suddenly posted a statement of apology, explaining everything that had happened the previous day. They cleared Ashlyn’s name and said the comic book had nothing to do with her.
Raina’s apology was simple. It said that five years ago, she had gone abroad to recuperate because of an accident. On returning home, she learned that Gordon had married Ashlyn. They were divorced by that time but Raina was still jealous. So she spread the rumor that Ashlyn was the other woman in Gordon and her relationship.
To top it off, Raina had accidentally read the comic book, finding that it was quite popular. The hero in the book was very handsome and had a lot in common with Gordon. To embarrass Ashlyn even more, she made up a story and said that Ashlyn was the author.
The statement was short and concise, but it convinced many people.
Ashlyn couldn’t help but laugh at the statement.
“It looks like the Jones family paid a high price this time,” Ashlyn murmured.
Ashlyn was right. The Jones family had spent a lot of money to solve this problem.
Nathaniel had offered Raina a lot in order for her to take the fall.
Six months ago, the Morgan family’s company had suffered a lot after Gordon had sent Arabella abroad.
Neither Nathaniel nor Gordon had any intention of helping them. But this time, they agreed to help the Morgan family to solve the problems that Denise had caused. Nathaniel had not only promised Raina to help them solve the current crisis but also help them gain resources and connections over the next three years.
Raina had put forward an even more unfair condition for Nathaniel. If she got pregnant with Gordon’s child, Nathaniel needed to ask Gordon to marry her.
Nathaniel became angry as he heard Raina’s condition.
But Raina had learned to be smart. She knew that only she could satisfactorily solve the conflict between Denise and Ashlyn.
Nathaniel saw that Raina was determined, and he left, simmering with anger. However, a few hours passed and public opinion still hadn’t changed for the better. Nathaniel had been left with no choice but to ask Carl to contact Raina.
That was why Raina’s statement and apology hadn’t come out until afternoon.
Ashlyn smiled at Talia’s words. “Well, I’m not surprised.”
Talia glanced at Ashlyn before continuing, “Nathaniel punished Denise very harshly that night. She was whipped nineteen times, nine of which were done by Gordon.”
“Gordon?” Ashlyn said, her eyebrows rising.
Talia nodded. “A maid working for the Jones family said so.”
Ashlyn tapped her fingers on her cheek thoughtfully before smiling coldly. “I didn’t expect Gordon to do that.”
Over the three years that Ashlyn had been married to Gordon, she had watched the Joness spoil Denise to no end.
Gordon was a cold man, but he had never refused Denise.
Ashlyn didn’t know if Gordon and Denise were playing tricks together this time, or if Denise had done something to anger Gordon too.
Either way, this had nothing to do with her.
She didn’t want to hear anything about Gordon anymore. She lowered her hand to pick up her pen and signed the document she had just read. “Okay. As I see it, this matter is over.”
Talia nodded. “Yes, Miss Ramos.”
Talia didn’t like the Jones family either. The less contact Ashlyn had with them, the better.
“This document is done. Take it to the marketing department.”
“Okay.”
Talia took the document and left the office, closing the door behind her.
But she returned soon, knocking on the door before entering.
Ashlyn was reading a proposal when Talia came in. When she saw Talia return so soon, she smiled quizzically as she asked, “What’s the matter?”
“Gordon’s secretary, Lowell, called me.”
The smile on Ashlyn’s face faded. “What did he say?”
Talia relayed Lowell’s words to her. “Gordon wants to invite you to dinner, and Denise wants to apologize to you.”
Ashlyn snorted. “I don’t have time for that.”
“Okay,” Talia said immediately, understanding what she had to do.
Saying thus, she turned around and made to leave.
As she watched Talia’s retreating back, Ashlyn seemed to change her mind.
“Wait a minute. Tell him I will go to that dinner.”
