Chapter 31 – Second Chance Love of the Missing Groom Novel

Diarmuid, however, did not take the sonogram. He simply glanced at it, and while he saw that the date was a match, he was not about to believe Whitney so easily!

“I know you won’t believe me,” Whitney said then, and took out the cell samples she had extracted from the amniocentesis, which she had kept frozen and well-preserved.

She was certainly well-prepared. “These are cell samples from the amniocentesis I took. You can test them all you want.” Diarmuid finally reacted then. There was no joy, however, as he stared at Whitney searchingly. “I don’t know why you’re suddenly so cold to me, but I’d never lie to you!” she declared with much conviction, and no one could have exposed her lies just then. While Stan walked up and took all the evidence, Whitney said solemnly, “I’ll have these children even if you don’t want them.”

Her words were chosen carefully, because she was convinced Diarmuid would never abandon his own children!

After she was gone, Stan asked, “Is this believable?”

Diarmuid remained cold, but decided to check whether duplicity was involved. “Call Zachary Slate.”

“Understood,” Stan replied, and an hour later, they were both at the hospital, since the necessary equipment was there.

Diarmuid was sitting at the lounge, enveloped in darkness while Stan stood outside.

After half an hour of waiting, Zachary stepped out of the lab with the results.

“Whose samples are these?” he asked Stan.

“Whitney Cox’s,” Stan replied. “She did it with Diarmuid?” Zachary asked.

Despite knowing that Diarmuid was a completely different person from Whitney, he lacked critical information.

Stan nodded then, which left him speechless. “Fine.” He passed everything to Stan. “Guess we’ll have to congratulate him.” Stan scanned through the results, and could not help swearing. “Shit!” “What do you think Diarmuid will be upset?” Zachary asked, confused by his reaction. Stan quickly whispered, “Actually, I think he has feelings for Abigail Bernstein. What is he supposed to do now that Whitney is pregnant?”

Aware that Abigail was pregnant with someone else’s child, Zachary simply said, “What else can he do? Just get a divorce.”

He wanted dearly to add ‘right now’ at the end of his sentence, so that Diarmuid would never find out that Abigail had cheated on him.

Still, now that he thought about it, he had cheated on her too-did that not mean they were even?

Nonetheless, Stan gave Zachary a look and thought to himself, ‘Easy for you to say!’

He entered the lounge with the results.

The room was still pitch-black and unlit, but he slowly made his way toward Diarmuid and quietly said, “We have the results.”

However, Diarmuid had overheard their conversation outside, and simply said, “I know.”

Stan was about to ask what they were going to do when Diarmuid rose to his feet and strode out of the lounge.

Gingerly holding on to the reports, Stan followed him.

Soon, Zachary caught up as well and said, “There’s no way you’d abandon your own children, right? Just divorce Abigail.” Diarmuid wheeled on him with a sharp look. “Are you telling me what to do?”

Zachary promptly turned silent. Throughout the journey home, Stan did not dare to say a word.

The atmosphere in the car was suffocating! Once they returned to the mansion, Diarmuid headed upstairs and asked casually, “Is she asleep?”

Mrs. Watson answered softly, “Mrs. Althoff hasn’t returned yet.” Diarmuid stopped in his tracks and checked his watch. It was already 9 PM, long past her work hours-where could she have gone?

There really was not a dull moment with her, and it always got him unnerved!

He abruptly turned and stormed out of the mansion angrily!

Meanwhile, Abigail had actually been taken elsewhere by her taxi driver when she left work.

It was only when they arrived that she realized Harvey Gooding had paid off the driver – she had been abducted to Harvey’s personal residence! There, he had his men tie Abigail up and throw her unceremoniously on bed. Sitting on a chair beside the bed while twirling a glass of red wine, he watched admiringly as Abigail struggled against her restraints.

“Let’s see how you’re going to run this time.” He grinned.

Abigail glared at him. “Kidnapping is a crime!”

“I know, but you actually forgot another crime.” Harvey laughed smugly, and continued without waiting for a response from her. “Like, I don’t know… sexual assault?

Abigail actually slinched in fear, and it was the first time Harvey saw her being afraid.

Arching his back to lean toward her, he said, “So you can actually feel fear. I thought you sear nothing.” “Anyone would be afraid of someone like you, wouldn’t they?” Abigail glared at him warily, worried that he would do something else.

Harvey could see what she was thinking, and chuckled. “You’re nothing but meat served on a silver platter now. I can do anything to you-get it? Fool me twice, shame on me! So don’t think I’ll let you escape from me for a third time!”

Putting down his glass of wine, he rose from his chair and took off his casual jacket.

He was on the tall side and appeared rather slim, but he did not look delicate at all. He had been wearing a T-shirt underneath, and Abigail became flustered as he started to

Take it off as well, but she forced herself to stay calm. “Diarmuid and I are together. Just let me go.”

She had no choice but to use Diarmuid’s influence. However, Harvey simply pursed his lips.

“I knew it. Diarmuid was interested in you! To think that he’d lie to me that he would never like women like you.”

Abigail did a double take.

Diarmuid did not like women like her? She felt disappointment for some reason, but that only lasted a split second. It was only natural, since women like her had nothing going for them. “Oh, and I’ll let you go, but not now.” Harvey laughed then. “Doesn’t matter how many times you say Diarmuid’s name, he was the one who gave you to me when we first met. Right now, I’ın just taking what I’m owed, so I’m not worried if this comes for me.” Abigail bit her lip in despair. How could she have forgotten that Harvey started to stalk her because of Diarmuid?

Also, she should not be moving too much-after the latest checkup today, she was showing signs of miscarriage and needed proper rest to avoid that. Since throwing out Diarmuid’s name was hopeless, she needed to think of something else. Forcing herself to stay calm, she said, “I get it-there’s no escape for me now. I surrender… But can’t you untie me already?”

“Nope.” Harvey refused right then-there was no chance, because she was too cunning,

Nonetheless, Abigail pressed on, asking, “Do you really think it’s fun to have me while I’m tied up?” Harvey raised a brow. “What, are you going to play along if I untie you?” “Yes, only if you untie me.” Abigail smiled. “You’re not that ugly anyway, and I’m no maiden.”

Harvey frowned. “What…”

“I’ve been with men before,” she said, intent on making him feel contempt toward her. And yet, Harvey had clearly learned his lesson and remained unconcerned. “It’s fine. I don’t care.”

Abigail was speechless, even as he leaned toward her and reached out to unbutton her blouse!

Abigail was trembling all over. “Wait…”

“What are you scared?” Harvey laughed.
