Chapter 71 – Twisted Fate of a Billionaire’s Daughter Undercover

“Yeah. You and Ashlyn divorced already. Why does she still pester us?” Denise butted in.

Denise was the sort of person who wouldn’t learn her lesson. Now that she had a chance to kick Ashlyn when she was down, she spoke without hesitation.

Gordon narrowed his eyes at her coldly and asked sharply, “And what about you? Have you apologized to Ashlyn? Did she forgive you?”

At the mention of this matter, Denise instantly faltered. She hid behind Jenifer and whined, “Mom, how could Gordon say something like that?”

“Enough. It’s none of your business,” said Jenifer, stepping aside to expose Denise.

Denise pouted in displeasure. “What do you mean it has nothing to do with me? I’m a Jones! I’ll become a joke at school if word gets out!”

Over the past few months, the Jones family had become the laughingstock several times thanks to Ashlyn.

“Grandpa, let’s talk in private,” said Gordon.

Nathaniel also didn’t want to deal with such a mess in front of the family, so he ordered Jenifer and Denise to have breakfast alone.

After saying that, he looked at Gordon and said, “Let’s talk in the study.”

Gordon nodded and followed Nathaniel.

“Gordon, if you don’t explain everything, I won’t let you leave this house today.”

Nathaniel was obviously furious. He was angry with both Ashlyn and Raina.

Gordon looked at his grandfather and explained casually, “Raina woke up from her coma, so she came back. As for Ashlyn…”

He paused for a while, wondering if he should tell Nathaniel that Ashlyn was doing this to get back at him.

However, as soon as he opened his mouth, the pain at the corner of his mouth reminded him of what Devin had said.

Gordon’s expression darkened. He paused for a few more seconds and then looked at Nathaniel again. “She’s right. I married her so that I wouldn’t have to marry the woman you arranged for me and I could wait for Raina to wake up.”

Truth be told, Gordon had only gotten into a relationship with Raina to rebel against his family. He didn’t love Raina that much.

He couldn’t stand the marriage Nathaniel had arranged for him. Coincidentally, Raina was his girlfriend at the time, which made her his best choice.

But later, in saving his life, Raina got into an accident. Before the operation, she pulled his sleeve and asked him if he would wait for her.

Gordon couldn’t bear to say “no” to his girlfriend who had just saved his life.

Later, Raina fell into a coma. Then, Nathaniel told the Morgan family that only one of Arabella and Raina could marry into the Jones family, which only stirred Gordon’s rebellion further.

That day, when he saw the plane carrying Raina take off, Gordon pictured that the plane was pulled by a string held by Nathaniel—and he was that plane.

Sure enough, a few days after Raina’s departure, Nathaniel arranged for him to meet a girl from a family of equal social rank.

Gordon had tried countless ways to resist, but he knew that if he left, Amor, his brother, would have to marry someone he didn’t love.

For Amor’s sake, Gordon chose to stay. And just as he was about to marry that rich lady, Ashlyn appeared in his life.

In order to save the Jones family’s reputation, Nathaniel had no choice but to let him marry Ashlyn.

The reason why he married Ashlyn was that he wouldn’t need to marry the woman arranged by his grandfather and he could wait for Raina to wake up, but to be exact, Ashlyn was a tool for him to rebel against Nathaniel.

But later, his tool divorced him.

For some reason, as he pondered over all of this, Gordon felt some indescribable emotions.

After Gordon took a deep breath, he added, “I used Ashlyn.”

Nathaniel narrowed his eyes and demanded, “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”

Gordon raised his head and locked eyes with Nathaniel coldly. “I told Ashlyn that I used her. Naturally, she got angry. It makes sense that she wanted to take revenge.”

Nathaniel was furious to hear that. He looked at his favorite grandson in disbelief and barked, “Gordon, say that again.”

Gordon rubbed the spot between his eyebrows and winced. He didn’t sleep well last night and was rudely awoken early this morning. His head was pounding. “You didn’t mishear. This is all my fault.”

After a slight pause, he added, “By the way, Grandpa, you said that if Raina ever woke up, you would let me marry her. Well, she’s awake now. It’s time for you to fulfill your promise and let us get married.”

Bang!

Nathaniel was so angry that he reached for the nearest thing—a roll of tape on the desk—and threw it at Gordon. “Get out! You two will be the death of me! Scram!”

Looking at the enraged Nathaniel in front of him, Gordon remained cool and indifferent. “Grandpa, calm down. It’s not good for your blood pressure. Anyway, I’m going to the office. I’ll handle it.”

His words and calmness only served to make Nathaniel even angrier.

Gordon called in Nathaniel’s personal secretary and said lightly, “Carl, take good care of Grandpa, okay?”

Then, without waiting for a response, he left the study.

As soon as Gordon closed the door behind him, he heard the sounds of things being smashed inside.

His expression darkened and he went downstairs with a cloud hanging over his head.

In the dining room, Denise was absentmindedly eating breakfast. When she saw Gordon coming down, she immediately looked over.

However, she didn’t think that he’d look at her. When their eyes met, Denise stiffened and wanted to lower her head, but it was too late.

“Didn’t Grandpa ask you to apologize to Ashlyn? Until Ashlyn has forgiven you, keep apologizing, or else your credit card will be suspended.”

Denise’s eyes went as wide as saucers. “Gordon, are you fucking crazy? Isn’t it obvious that Ashlyn’s making things difficult for me?”

“Haven’t you made things difficult for her before?”

Denise was speechless.

Without waiting for her response, Gordon turned around and walked away. Finally, Denise turned to Jenifer and complained, “Mom, is Gordon crazy? Has he lost his mind because of Ashlyn?”

Jenifer glared at her with dissatisfaction. “Denise, he’s your brother. How could you say such a thing?”

“But he’s going to freeze my card just for Ashlyn!”

“And rightfully so. You did give her a hard time before. Apologize to her so that she’ll stop making trouble for our family.”

Denise didn’t like listening to reason, so she stormed off to her room, pouting.

Just like he said, Gordon went straight to the office. He arrived early, so there were only a few people. The doorman was shocked to see the nasty wound on his face.

After such an eventful night and morning, Gordon barely got any sleep.

Now he felt a dull pain in his stomach. Sitting on the chair, he remembered that Ashlyn had asked Lowell to put the stomach medicine in the drawer some time ago.

Wincing in pain, Gordon opened the drawer and reached for the medicine, only to find that it had expired.

Just then, there was a knock on the door. Gordon threw the medicine aside and said gruffly, “Come in.”

Lowell pushed the door open and nearly gasped when he saw Gordon’s beat-up face. Knowing what to ask and what not to, he quickly lowered his head and handed a document to him.

“Mr. Jones, this is something I found from that night four years ago.”

Lowell knew that Gordon wouldn’t be pleased when he saw the results of the investigation.

Having worked for Gordon for years, Lowell knew that it’d be best to leave him alone with the report so as to avoid his wrath.
