Lulu’s expression cooled immediately. “I have no such intentions.”
“No, but it’s your right-and he would like to fact have it,” Ken told her Lulu stared at the man before her in shock-given what he revealed, did that mean Zachary already knew who she was but just did not show it?
She panicked at that and did her best to quell her frantic thoughts.
She had to keep pretending if she wanted to stay here right beside Star. It was the only way she could keep caring for Star, as she could not stay if her cover was blown. And she would do it, whether Zachary knew or otherwise!
“I’ve been married before,” she said as she wolfed down her food. “I hate being tied down and men.”
Ken sighed. “Birds of the same feather really do flock together. The way you both are being tsundere are identical.”
“Don’t joke around about something like that,” Lulu snapped sternly.
“But I wasn’t joking,” Ken replied.
That was when Star started bawling, and Lulu did not hesitate to put everything down to run to her.
Since Star’s skin was fair, the redness around her eyes were apparent whenever she cried, and Lulu wiped away her tears while picking her up.
“Oh, Star. Are you hungry?” Lulu asked, and brought a bottle she prepared earlier.
As Star stopped crying after having her fill, Ken entered and picked up a rattle to play with her.
“Hey Star, your godfather is here to visit.”
Lulu then watched in surprise as Star’s little lips split into a wide smile, leaking plenty of milk.
“So you recognize me! I’m so happy.” Ken nodded in approval, while Lulu wiped Star’s mouth.
After filling her stomach, Star was especially spirited, flailing her little limbs after Lulu put her on the carpet, excited for no particular reason.
She would reach out to take whichever toy Ken held out to her.
He was about to leave when a video call from Zachary arrived, and Ken paused just to click his tongue audibly.
Zachary ignored him and kept his eyes on Lulu. “Ms. Jones.”
Lulu, however, kept her distance and .ne stood in a corner as she spoke. “Don’t worry, Mr. Slate. Star’s already slepotwice, and I’ve taken her for a stroll in the garden.” S
Zachary quickly realized that she was reluctant to speak or look at him, and so; tried to find a topic.
et “Sorry, but Ken’s not really carrying Star right-she looks uncomfortable.
Why don’t you carry her while he hotel’s up the phone?”
Ken rolled his eyes-the man was so eager to please his woman that he would use his best friend like a tool!
“Hurry up I don’t have much time,” Zachary urged, even shooting Ken a look.
Ken was speechless. He was definitely a tool!
But while tools were lifeless, he was alive!
Still, he took the phone voluntarily and aimed the camera at Lulu m grumbling Use me as much as you us t want, why don’t you.”
Star suddenly pouted, looking ready to cry-perhaps wanting to be carried or someone to play with.
Lulu quickly scooped Star up in her arms.
While Zachary watched Star and Lulu like it was perfectly normal, Ken was scowling impatiently for being treated like a phone stand.
“To the left, Ken. I can’t see Star…”
When Ken did so, Zachary complained again. “That’s too far left! A little to the right!”
Ken kept adjusting as Zachary complained, until he had enough. “I’m not a camera stand, Zachary Slate!”
Shoving the phone in Lulu’s hand, Ken planted himself on a nearby couch, huffing.
Lulu held the phone, aiming the camera at Star.
The baby’s little hands reached out toward the phone, and Zachary’s heart could melt from the cuteness.
He would like to stay home and give her a bear hug, but work progress had been slow, and it was only today that they were starting to get things done. “Just wait for me, Star. Daddy will be home soon.”
“You’re returning already, Mr. Slate?” Lulu asked, exceedingly uncomfortable.
She would rather Zachary did not come back so soon since she was fine with spending time with Star like this.
Still, Zachary shook his head. “It would still take a while, but I’ll make it fast.”
So he was just sweet-talking his baby. Thank goodness it was not the case. She almost bought it too…
“By the way, where’s Vivian?” Zachary asked.
Oh!
It was only then that Lulu remembered Vivian as well and realized that she never saw Vivian after Ken came.
“I don’t know… She never came back after she left.”
In fact, Vivian was still driving straight for Zachary’s hotel, with a roast goose sitting on the seat next to her. Zachary, however, could tell right away that Ken had tricked Vivian.
Still, everything was fine as long as Lulu was not affected.
After hesitating for a while, Zachary eventually said, “Sorry that you had to change rooms.”
“It’s nothing. I’m perfectly fine.”
Lulu shook her head-there was nothing to be sorry about.
She could stay anywhere she wanted with Star and was content with just having a bed.
Star started tugging on Lulu’s collar, demanding attention again soon enough.
“It’s okay, Star. Let me show you a magic trick.”
Lulu did not realize that Star had loosened her collar and picked up a napkin to cover her hand.
She began blowing at the napkin, and lowed suit, with a r duck appearing in Lulu’s palm after that.
Star squealed in delight and grabbed the rubber duck while grinning.
Her pink lips were wide open, her drool the g out as she squeezedet duck, not tired of itsel quacking.
It was an amazing magic trick to Star, even if it was a little crude im Zachary’s eyes.
“Thank you, Ms. Jones,” he said.
After distracting Star, Lulu glanced at her noticed that one of her 6ge in the camera and s was loose.
While Lulu was left speechless, she realized Zachary was staring straight at her.
She quickly turned away to button her collar again with one hand while e still holding Star with the other. Read the latest Could he not have said something if he saw?
“Please show some respect, Mr.
Slate,” she said, still keeping her back to the camera.
“How have I disrespected you?” Zachary asked in turn.
