Chapter 56 – Twisted Fate of a Billionaire’s Daughter Undercover

Payne was a professional. Within two hours, he managed to get Ashlyn out of trouble.

Ashlyn disguised herself in a cap, a mask, a plain T-shirt, and jeans. She went downstairs and found only a few paparazzi waiting at the door of the apartment building. She casually walked past them, and nobody noticed that it was her.

Compared to her, Arabella, Gordon’s sister-in-law and “new sweetheart,” was more eye-catching to the public.

Arabella wasn’t expecting that she’d become the next hot topic. She had been keeping a low profile since she came back, for fear of getting on the Jones family’s radar. Despite lying low, she still got into trouble.

Look at the post that kept getting retweeted, Arabella’s anxiety kept rising. Finally, she called Gordon.

Gordon also just heard what had happened on the Internet. His expression darkened when he saw who was calling. “What?” he barked.

“Gordon, did you know what’s happening on the Internet?”

“What’re you trying to say?”

“Gordon, none of it’s true! I’m not the one responsible for this post. What should I do? Should I take Raina back to the Jones family?”

Gordon rubbed the spot between his eyebrows and sighed. “You don’t need to do anything. I’ll handle it.”

Hearing this, Arabella finally breathed a sigh of relief. “Okay, great. Thanks.”

After hanging up, Gordon stood inside the room for a while before finally heading downstairs.

Sure enough, Nathaniel was waiting for him. As soon as Gordon reached the bottom of the stairs, Nathaniel shouted, “What the hell happened last night? Isn’t Arabella supposed to be abroad? When did you let her come back? Gordon, are you fucking insane? Don’t you feel humiliated enough?”

As soon as he finished speaking, he threw the cup in his hand at Gordon’s feet.

The porcelain cup was smashed into pieces. After a short while, Gordon answered simply, “I’ll handle it.”

Then he turned and headed out the door, which made Nathaniel tremble with anger.

“Gordon, wait!”

Jenifer wanted to stop her son from leaving but failed. She could do nothing but watch as he headed towards his car.

She sighed and turned to face Nathaniel. “Dad, calm down. The paparazzi always exaggerate. Gordon’s an adult. He knows what he should and shouldn’t do!”

However, her words only served to make Nathaniel even angrier. “Bullshit! If he really knew what to do, he wouldn’t have divorced Ashlyn!”

Hearing this, Jenifer suddenly fell silent.

Gordon’s divorce was a sensitive topic. When it came to this matter, Jenifer also had a bit of a grudge against Nathaniel.

If he hadn’t insisted on punishing Ashlyn, forcing her to kneel, she wouldn’t have divorced Gordon in the first place.

Denise couldn’t help but cut in. “Grandpa, no one knew Ashlyn’s real identity before.”

Nathaniel shot Denise a murderous glare and barked, “Shut the fuck up! It’s thanks to you that we have offended the Ramos family! Apologize to Ashlyn now!”

“Grandpa, I’ve already posted my apology online!”

“That’s not what I said. I said apologize to Ashlyn, not post an apology online!”

Denise’s face turned pale. She shrank back and didn’t dare to go against Nathaniel’s orders. “Okay, fine.”

The more Nathaniel thought about it, the angrier he became.

To vent his anger, he ordered Denise to go back to her room.

It was so early in the morning yet the house was already brimming with resentment and anger.

By the time Ashlyn got home from the supermarket, the trending topics about Gordon and Arabella on Twitter had completely disappeared. Nothing popped up when she tried searching the keyword “Gordon.”

Needless to say, Gordon had likely asked someone to remove anything related to him from the list of trending topics.

Jessie suggested she ask Payne to keep looking for gossip influencers to post about it again, but Ashlyn refused.

Sometimes, things were more suspicious when people tried to hide the truth rather than to explain it.

Jessie was confused. “Why not?”

Ashlyn explained, “He’s hiding in plain sight. It makes him look guiltier, don’t you think?”

Hearing this, Jessie was stunned for a while. By the time she came to her senses, she couldn’t help but shake her head in awe. “Damn, Ashlyn. You’re a fucking genius!”

Ashlyn smiled. “Really?”

Wasn’t Jessie too slow? Of course, Ashlyn didn’t say that out loud.

Ashlyn was right. Although Gordon had removed himself from the trending topics, his move only served to make him look guiltier.

Although no one could find out anything about Gordon and Arabella online, people from the upper class of Courtbush still talked about it.

Aiken had been Gordon’s closest friend for over twenty years. When he heard those bad comments about Gordon, he tried to defend his friend.

But people who disagreed with him asked, “Did Gordon and Arabella have a relationship or not?”

Aiken didn’t know how to answer this question. All of Gordon’s best friends knew that Gordon did date Arabella back in college, even though the relationship only lasted two months. If someone attempted to investigate, it wouldn’t take long for them to find out.

Aiken was speechless. He, too, was confused about Gordon’s actions last night.

He was in no mood to party and flirt with ladies. He grabbed his car keys and walked out.

His sports car zipped through town and didn’t stop until it reached a villa.

As soon as Aiken got out of the car, he rang the doorbell. This villa was bought the year Gordon graduated from college. The Jones family had no idea that this villa existed, but Gordon’s best friends did.

Such explosive news had been released early that morning, and Aiken was pretty sure that Nathaniel was enraged. Aiken knew that Gordon was probably in a bad mood, too.

Gordon tended to retreat to this villa whenever he was in a bad mood. On his way here, Aiken tried calling Gordon several times, but the latter didn’t answer, which confirmed that he was in a bad mood.

The doorbell rang again and again. Finally, Gordon opened his eyes, picked up the remote, and checked the surveillance monitor. When he saw Aiken’s face on the screen, his mood worsened.

But it was clear that Aiken wasn’t going to stop ringing the doorbell until Gordon opened the door.

Rubbing his temples, Gordon headed downstairs.

“You have too much time on your hands.”

Aiken clicked his tongue. “I knew you’d be in a bad mood, so I came to check on you.”

Gordon sneered coldly. “So are you expecting a thank you?”

Aiken rolled his eyes at the sarcasm but followed Gordon into the villa. “Are you and Arabella together again?”

Before Aiken could remind Gordon that Arabella was his sister-in-law, he met Gordon’s intense gaze and shut up.

Aiken awkwardly scratched his head and changed the topic. “So why were you at Ashlyn’s apartment building last night?”

Gordon didn’t have the patience to deal with Aiken’s questions. “Get the fuck out!”

Without waiting for a response, he stormed off and locked himself in his study, leaving Aiken outside.

“What a prick!”
