Shooting her a look, Diarmuid smiled-despite all the flirting and playfulness she cared about appearances in public.
Still, he took her hand. “Don’t keep your distance. We’re legally married.”
Abigail lowered her head and murmured softly, “Yeah.”
As she became docile, they waited at the airport lounge until it was time for her to board the plane.
Abigail told him to go back. “I can go on my own from here.”
Diarmuid’s hand tightened around hers. “I can walk you to the boarding gate.”
Abigail reluctantly headed to the flight terminal, turning around to wave at Diarmuid just as she was about to leave.
Diarmuid stood a head above the rest of the crowd so she could spot him immediately… though he did draw attention wherever he went as well. “I’m going now,” she said.
“Yeah,” Diarmuid replied.
Another announcement rang over the speakers just then, and Abigail boarded her flight.
She was flying first class, and she quickly put on the sleeping mask and covered herself in the blanket provided. It was spacious and quiet there, and she could sleep comfortably.
Eagle was on hand to receive her as she disembarked, apologizing to her immediately. “I’m sorry, ma’am—I didn’t watch over Ms. Adams properly.”
“You’re not at fault here,” Abigail told him. “Even I probably can’t stop her even if I was here-she’s just that stubborn. Anyway, how is she?” “She’s much better,” Eagle replied.
“Good.”
Eagle gingerly turned to glance at her just then. “Are you feeling ill, ma’am? You appear exhausted.”
Abigail rubbed her cheeks. “I just haven’t slept well lately.”
Diarmuid was relentless back in Franconia-absence certainly makes the heart fonder, not to mention that Diarmuid was at the peak of his physique! They alighted once they drove to the hospital, with Eagle following Abigail in silence, his head lowered as he stared at her slender figure. Once in Lulu’s ward, Abigail saw that Lulu could sit up when she could only lay down before.
Hurrying to her, Abigail asked, “Do you feel better?”
“Did Eagle tell you what happened? I told him not to say,” Lulu huffed. “I’d come even if he didn’t call,” Abigail told her. “I’m never going to leave you alone, don’t you think?”
“What, I can’t take care of myself?” Lulu snorted.
Abigail knew that Lulu did not want to be a bother. However, she was definitely not in a good state and was a little distant here.
“You can take care of yourself, can’t you? Fine. Get off your bed and show me you can walk around.”
Lulu pursed her lips. “Sorry.”
Abigail sat by her bed and held her hand just then. “I’ll stop worrying once you’re better. I know you don’t want to burden me, but I don’t consider you a burden. We are more family than friends-don’t you think we should have each other’s backs?”
Lulu stayed silent but gave Abigail’s hand a squeeze.
The next day, Lulu had another surgery with more success this time. Still, her appearance was a far cry from what it used to be, and even Abigail would not have recognized Lulu if she did not know what Lulu looked like before. It was certainly a lot less attractive than before as well, and it was already amazing that she could recover to her current state-medical technology was certainly advanced these days.
After another week, Lulu underwent a restorative surgery, as her mental as state and injuries were recovering steadily.
Abigail’s phone rang during dinner that evening and picked up her phone to find that it was Diarmuid.
She headed outside to answer it, while Eagle quietly took a step back, giving her some distance.
“Have you made the arrangements?” Abigail asked-Lulu had agreed to be transferred to Franconia, and they were going to plan for her hospital stay.
Diarmuid simply had to tell someone else to do it with Stan and James, He had all the help he needed!
“Did Zachary return to Zidonia?” Abigail asked.
This was the more pressing issue.
“Yeah,” Diarmuid said. I’ve sent him off.”
Abigail laughed. “Efficient, aren’t you?”
Diarmuid chuckled exasperatedly in turn. “I have to be-it’s your order after all.”
Abigail lowered her head and bit her lip as she purred, “I will properly reward you once I get home.”
Diarmuid certainly missed her since it has been over ten days since she had been to Minerva.
The days felt like years, and yet he had to restrain himself too.
After all, he would only hurt more if he kept letting her flirt with him, so he hung up right then!
Abigail was left staring at her phone, speechless and frowning.
What was with him? Was he upset? There’s no way, right?
Worried and reluctant to let him stay angry, she sent a text to appease him.
[Darling.]
No response.
[I miss you.] This time, it was accompanied with heart emojis.
Still no reply!
She then sent a cute emoji… and there was no reply once more. Abigail blinked. [I’m going to get upset if you still don’t reply.]
This time, there was a reply, but it was just a single word: [Okay.] Diarmuid was actually seated behind his desk with a finger on his temple as he swiped on his phone, reading her text repeatedly.
There was a doofus smile on his face if either Stan or James saw that, they would definitely be laughing.
On the other hand, Abigail was pouting as she stared at the single- worded reply.
Would it kill him to text more words?
Still, the doctor arrived just then, and Abigail quickly texted him: [The doctor’s here. I’ll call you later.]
She turned and headed inside Lulu’s ward, where the doctor was examining Lulu.
Lulu was recovering well-one had to admit that Minervan medical standards are quite good, and Lulu was improving better than expected.
Abigail approached the doctor and asked, “Can I transfer her to another hospital?”
“That depends on the patient,” the doctor replied, looking up. “If she has no further demands, she can be discharged. You may transfer if you found a butter surgeon as well-we respect the patient’s wishes.” “I don’t need further reconstructive surgery,” Lulu said then.
Ever since the first surgery, she had already asked the doctors not to restore her previous appearance because she wanted to be a whole new person.
A new appearance meant a new identity, and she could start over with that.
“In that case, you just need rest and recovery,” the doctor said, nodding.
“Also, I’m perfectly satisfied with your abilities,” Lulu told him.
The doctor smiled.
Abigail, however, could not-Lulu’s face was hideous when she used to be so beautiful.
Abigail certainly wanted to reason with her to take on another surgery. “Lulu—”
“This works for me,” Lulu said, cutting her short.
“What?” Abigail exclaimed in confusion.
Lulu did not explain herself until the doctor left. “Why do I need to be pretty if I’m living for my daughter?”
