Chapter 49 – Twisted Fate of a Billionaire’s Daughter Undercover

All of a sudden, Gordon felt that Ashlyn had played him like a fool.

He thought about the day he married Ashlyn and the words he had said to warn her. A fire ignited inside him and seemed to engulf his body, mind, and soul in flames.

What did he say that day?

“Ashlyn, just be a good wife and my family will treat you well. As for something else, don’t ever think about it.”

Now that he thought about it, he felt as though Ashlyn had slapped him in the face.

That damned woman!

Just then, the lights turned green, but Gordon’s car remained motionless.

It wasn’t until the car behind him honked impatiently that he snapped out of his trance.

With a sullen expression, he slammed his foot on the gas.

As soon as Ashlyn and her parents arrived at their hotel, they ran into several acquaintances.

Mara was Denise’s good friend, and she had actually helped spread the rumor about Ashlyn and her sugar daddy. So now, everyone in Courtbush thought that Ashlyn was a mistress.

In the three years that Ashlyn was married to Gordon, every time Mara went to their house, she and Denise would push Ashlyn around. Later, they even framed Ashlyn.

In Mara’s eyes, Ashlyn was still the weak, submissive woman from the old days.

Not long ago, Ashlyn had humiliated Mara and Denise at a party, and Mara had been trying to come up with a way to get even.

What a small world! Seeing Ashlyn at the hotel, she knew that today was the day she’d get her revenge.

But before she could say anything, her father, Kolton Cooper, greeted Stevie first. “Mr. Ramos, long time no see!”

Stevie was still boiling with anger after dealing with the Jones family. Now that he ran into an acquaintance, he forced a smile and greeted Kolton. “Mr. Cooper, how’ve you been?”

Kolton had been working in the business world for decades as well, so he was good at discerning things. His eyes landed on Ashlyn, who was holding Stevie’s wife’s arm. Everyone knew that Stevie doted on his only daughter, but very few people knew what she looked like.

Of course, Kolton had heard about Ashlyn before. She was Gordon’s ex-wife.

Ashlyn’s last name was Ramos, and so was Stevie’s. Judging from the way Ashlyn held Stevie’s wife’s arm, they seemed to be close. Plus, when Kolton took a closer look, he found that Ashlyn looked a lot like Stevie. Kolton was shocked to his core, but he didn’t show it on his face. “Mr. Ramos, is this graceful lady your daughter?”

Ever since Ashlyn was young, Stevie had no choice but to keep a low profile, fearing that someone would try to hurt Ashlyn if they found out she was from a rich family. But he didn’t expect that every coin had two sides. The way the Jones family treated Ashlyn had opened his eyes.

Now, Stevie wanted to tell the whole world that Ashlyn was his daughter. “Ashlyn, come and say hello to Mr. Cooper.”

Casting a glance at Mara, who was behind Kolton, Ashlyn smiled and greeted him politely. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Cooper.”

Kolton smiled and exchanged pleasantries with her. Then he took his wife and daughter to their room.

After shutting the door behind them, Mara stopped Kolton in disbelief. “Dad, who is that Mr. Ramos?”

Wasn’t Ashlyn from an ordinary family? Why was Kolton so polite to Ashlyn’s father?

Kolton stopped smiling. “There’s only one Ramos family in Bluepond. Who else could Mr. Ramos be?”

Mara had guessed this, but she refused to believe it. Now that her father confirmed her suspicion, her face turned pale. “Impossible! How could Ashlyn’s father be the richest man in Bluepond?”

If this was true, then all the insults she and Denise hurled at Ashlyn previously would be a joke.

Mara refused to believe it. However, what Kolton said next shocked her more.

“I don’t care what kind of feud you’ve had with Ashlyn in the past, but if you dare to offend Ashlyn again, I’ll cut you off!”

“Dad!”

Mara’s eyes went as wide as saucers. Even her mother, who had always spoiled her, didn’t come to her rescue this time. “Mara, listen to your father. We can’t afford to offend them.”

Stevie was the richest man in Bluepond, and there were several top political officials in his wife’s family.

The Cooper family had to stay on their good side.

Ashlyn took Stevie and Vivien to their private room and sat down with them. Stevie seemed to suddenly remember something as he asked, “Kolton’s daughter is very familiar with Denise, isn’t she?”

Ashlyn, who had gotten up to make coffee, paused for a moment and looked at Stevie. “Dad?”

“Ashlyn, do you think I don’t know how they made things difficult for you?”

Although the relationship between father and daughter had been severed over the past three years, Stevie hadn’t really left Ashlyn alone.

Although Ashlyn was an amazing woman in every way, she was too stubborn.

Stevie didn’t need to look into Ashlyn’s life after she had married into the Jones family. He had heard about the miserable life that Gordon’s wife led many times. He knew the kind of life that Ashlyn had led during the three years.

Ashlyn and Denise had quarreled several times. It was impossible for Stevie to not know these things.

Ashlyn fixed her gaze on Stevie as she said, “Are you looking to take revenge on my behalf, Dad?”

Vivien, who was sitting next to them, said, “We will let go of everything that happened before your divorce. But if anyone dares treat you like that again, we will not be so polite.”

Vivien was also infuriated by the Jones family’s attitude tonight. She had been born into a rich family and spoiled, but she had never bullied anyone like the Jones family did.

If it weren’t for the fact that Ashlyn and Gordon had divorced, Vivien would have made the Jones family suffer because of what Denise had done. Even if she couldn’t destroy the Jones family, she would do everything in her power to inflict losses on them.

Ashlyn poured coffee for her parents and said, “Don’t worry, Mom. I won’t let that happen again.”

Vivien cast a sidelong glance at her and said, “Who knows when you will lose your mind again?”

Ashlyn was embarrassed. She had to admit that she had lost her mind when she had insisted on marrying Gordon.

Nathaniel’s pale face had pleased Stevie and Vivien. Besides, Ashlyn changed the topic and tried to make her parents happy. Gradually, Stevie’s anger dissipated.

After dinner, Ashlyn dropped Stevie and Vivien back at the hotel.

Before she left, Stevie suddenly asked her, “So, how’s it going with you and Devin?”

Ashlyn’s eyebrows shot up as she asked, “Devin? What do you mean?”

Stevie glanced at her meaningfully and said, “I met his father over a meal a few days ago. It seems that Devin has told his family that he has fallen in love with a girl and that if he can get her, he will marry her.”

Ashlyn brushed his words off with a light chuckle. “We haven’t had much contact of late.”

Stevie clicked his tongue. “I knew it! As I said, he is a playboy. Not long ago, he said that he wanted to pursue you, but now he is hanging around with someone else. Don’t do silly things this time, Ashlyn.”

“Dad!” Ashlyn pouted. “Go to bed early, okay? I’ll drive you and Mom to the airport tomorrow.”

Stevie checked his watch and said, “Sure. You should go home too. Be careful on your way back.”

“Okay, Dad. Good night.”

“Good night.”
